Default New 2019 I-Pace Recall

The battery problem has gotten worse, the dealer will install software limiting the charge to 80% as Jaguar continues to search for a long-term fix. Same advice, don't charge the car in your garage. 2019 Jaguar I-Pace recalled because high-voltage battery may overheat (greencarreports.com)

Default 2019 battery recall

Did the battery improve somehow after 2019, or is this an arbitrary or hopeful cutoff at just model year 2019?

Default New 2019 recall

The 2019 I PACE model years are the most plagued with Traction Battery issues etc. Then COVID hit and sales were non existent because they weren't making them. Yes it came back, but I think the craze fizzled out. The first phase of this new recall will bring the charge to 80%. Phase 2 ?????. My guess is buy backs is what JLR wants. The battery assemblies, not the cell modules, but entire assemblies cost about $70k parts and labor. Multiply that by 3,000 and you have a lot of money. The H484 recall that came out last spring and covered 300 cars only. Per that recall. It was an option for buy backs or battery assembly replacements under that recall. What ever those owners negotiated with JLR. Now it's extending to all 2019's. There are issues with the anodes inside the battery modules. Software is only going to bandaid the packs from overheating. The only option is buy backs or entire battery assembly replacements

I-Pace buy-back (pdf)

"JLR is aware of a small number of reports of vehicle thermal overload condition post diagnostic software installation. There have been three fires in the US related to post software update on 2019MY vehicles. On January 10, 2024, July 4, 2024, and July 5, 2024. The issue was further reviewed at JLR’s RDC on November 11, 2024, where it was agreed that in the interest of timely resolution for customers, the permanent remedy for the defect in these vehicles is to reacquire affected vehicles. These vehicles will be held in the control of JLR until further notice."

My 2019 I-Pace has been sitting at JLR Marin, in Corte Madera, California, for going on 3 months, after being flatbedded there. My VIN is indicated for a buyback and I am watching my mail daily but I am hearing nothing from JLR corporate. What gives?

I was told by Jaguar North America customer service that they won't be offering buybacks. They need to be requested. I would reach out to them ASAP

I've tried to reach out multiple times. Each time all I get is that they will call me back in two weeks, but they never call back.

I'm sure they are struggling with the cost of all of this. I'd bet even Tata is having trouble making ends meet with little to nothing to sell this year and the cost of all the recalls. Sorry you have to go through this.

I eventually got a call from the service advisor at JLR Marin a few days ago that my I-Pace is definitely flagged for buy-back and asked if I want to come collect my belongings from the car. No official word yet however from JLR corporate.

Congratulations! Any idea how they are valuing it? Did you have any accessories/upgrades that they are including as well?

Actually, Jaguar Land Rover is making absolutely shedloads of money from their Land Rover side, (SUVs etc). It seems they can stand not selling any new Jaguars at all until well into 2026. Sad that they have abandoned all of their existing Jaguar customer base and also gone exclusively for electric cars, and costing well over £100,000 too. As an XE owner, I feel quite insulted that Jaguar have done this without even a goodbye.

Anyway, as they say, "as ye sow, so shall ye reap", so lets see what happens."

Service tech from JLR Marin called a couple of weeks ago to say that my I-Pace is flagged for JLR to repurchase so I should come (from my home 100+ miles to the north) to remove my personal belongings from the car.

Yet I have heard zero from corporate about any offer of repurchase. Meanwhile I still get solicitations from JLR trying to sell me something new. Today I received one trying to sell me a new I-Pace orphan. The hubris knows no bounds!

I have my eye on a Mercedes E-450 wagon so was motivated today to try harder to get action from Jaguar. Called dealer in Corte Madera and got the customer service number. Called and eventually was given a specific number to call regarding the buy-back.

Got to actually talk to a rep I could even understand and started the process. Confirmed VIN, my detailed contact info, and auto loan leinholder. He claimed that today is the official day that this process actually starts. Do I believe that? Probably not except that perhaps my call today started it.

The phone number i was given to call regarding the buyback program is 833-221-9788. I had started with the regular customer service number 800-346-3493 (which, when you call gives the false impression that it's for Land Rover only) and was given the specific program number and was then transferred.

While the rep said today was the "first day" of the buyback program, he then said I would receive further communication in the "next few weeks" so I won't be holding my breath.

Actually got an email today officially starting the process. Stated the JLR will offer Kelley Blue Book value (didn't say retail or what) as of October 2024. Estimated process to take about a month. Sadly, I looked up Blue Book value and it was not pretty.

iPace recall. In the UK, JLR's option was to replace the battery pack on the affected vehicles or buyback. $39,500 for a battery pack. In legal terms, the batteries were never fit for purpose. I've added up the warranty repairs on money, and I'm at $29,000+- Some of the cells have been replaced already because the range dropped to less than 100 miles The repurchase is via the importer, I believe I'm not going to accept Blue Book. Does anyone have any information or an offer.?

Blue Book is ridiculous! The car's value is so low because of this issue. How is that fair? They should fairly compensate, or properly fix.
