The little square piece where the rear seat heater buttons are located has some light 'swirling' in the clear coat. I used Mothers Scratch Remover, Mothers Carnuba Wax, the some Pledge to try to diminish the swirling. There was only a very minor improvement. Is there anything else I could try? A certain polish or other application? I am a little weary (I don't want to make it worse).

 

The proper way is to use really fine sandpaper and wet sand it, ending with a 2000 grit or someting of that grit.

 

You try it first and let me know how it goes!

 

If you do it and re clear coat it it will look perfect. I did it on an old 65 Grand Prix that the wood grain was pooched. Came up looking brand new. I started with 1000 grit and ended wet sanding with 2500 grit.

With fine scratches and swirls in the wood finish, these need to be lightly sanded and then buffed out using the correct polishing wheel and compund, and then the part will look like brand new again. Do not lacquer over it as this will only be a temporary fix and could do more harm than good. Cheers.

 

So, what will be correct compaund and polishing wheel
for our jaguar cars?
Maybe I'm wrong but in mine oppinion Jaguar usses same material-compaunds and method of building "diped-in look" for all his cars, regardles type of wood byitself.
The reason I'm asking this question is that recently I have got shift knob which need restoring.

Jag,Aston,RR and others have used the same type of finish on their wood since the early 70's - Polyester. It replaces nitrocellulose, & it's the same sort of finish that is used on various pianos and often solid body guitars. For buffing out swirls and haze, I recommend using this:

With the right polishing mop on a converted bench grinder, this will give you the best finish.
