Default Is the 6.0 V12 able to bolt in the 5.3?

I have a pre HE and am looking to improve performance without too much expense. Im wondering if the crank from the later 6.0 engines able to bolt in or are the bearings and conrods incompatable.

you would have to change pistons also, 6L has a shorter pin hite, and you would check compression ratios.

i would much rather find a complete 6.0L engine and swap it!

might be cheaper in the long run,!

Thanks Ron,

Biggest difficulty with simply changing engine in New Zealand is the rules and Certification.

If I simply changed the engine I would be expected to put Catalytic Converters on as per the newer 6 litre, which the '79 UK version did not have them. Then Im worried about having the uprate the engine supports and list/expense goes on.

In NZ IMHO would be better to change the crank and conrods to fix the piston height and none would be wiser. This would keep the car as standard and not upgraded to a specialised vehicle.

HMM! i thought NZ was a free country, well so much for that.

you could change engine internals, but i think you are going to findit a lot of work.

if i was to change complete 5.3L to a 6.0L, believe me nobody would be the wiser, it would look like a factory original, and NO cats or other emission stuff.

use all the 79 V12 manifolds ETC., it would have more power also.

I am time rich, so that isn't too much of an issue, beats sitting infront of the box every night.

The engine has to come out some time to clean up the wiring and paint the engine bay. Im going Aston Martin Dark Grey. I think they call it Casino Royale. This will be the third colour for the car!

The engine will be getting stripped down to get rid of all the drips which are everywhere. Nothing excessive.

Hey Yoda, did you ever end up installing the 6L in the 5.3, and if so what were your results?

Update? Very curious about this, as I imagine a 5.3 with gutted cats, a pair of mufflers removed, and a 4speed transmission would offer similar performance to the 6L.
