You need to provide a few more details about your car.

Such as year and engine type/size. Also what is wrong with it.

Says those things in the heading but here it goes. First time in any forum.
2014 Jaguar F-type V8-S / V8 5.0 / 8th ending in L Jaguar dealership says I need a new engine. They say catastrophic engine failure due to overheating. Cylinder 6 piston is scored. First issue was the inlet pipe cracking... Jaguar acknowledged that this is a known issue as they have redesigned the part but do not take any ownership that that part caused the catastrophic engine damage. I am looking for help maybe options or some guidance.

There are several threads on the 5.0 engine where it needs to be replaced/rebuilt. Unfortunately this engine commands a premium even used.

A dealer will charge you a fortune.

I am a DIYer so if it were me I would take off the cylinder heads to determine the amount of damage and go from there.

I am wondering how a piston was scored? If a valve hit it then yes there is catastrophic damage.

I would guess that minimal damage would be slightly warped heads and one scored piston and a damaged valve at a wild guess.

At least you did not have the famed timing chain failure.
