Default Banner ads where they "shouldn't" be!

I get banner ads to the right of the forum window and it makes the forum window very narrow. I think this is a problem that should be fixed. This is what I see ....

If you run adblock plus you should not see any ads at all.

I couldn't put up with that Mike.

Adblock will fix it but IMHO the advertisers / page designers are shooting themselves in the foot with this type of advertising.

This just started the other day -- used to be just smaller ads, now I'm getting those banner ads. I think the forum admin should be able to fix this issue by not allowing banner ads to display in the area to the right of the discussions.

I switched off my adblocker and I'm not getting the banners to the Right.

I also can't see either your or my own attachments with the blocker on.

I only get them once in a while -- seems like it's limited to certain advertisers, and with today's targeted ads, you might never see the same ones I see!

In fact, it seems to be limited to the Infiniti ad that's shown in my first post. When it cycles back through, I get the squeezed view!

I don't see any ads at all with Adblock Plus running. I also run Ghostery to limit who can track my activities on the weeb and let me spy on who's trying to spy on me.

Seems in your case what should show as a normal banner ad at the top or bottom centre of the page is being displayed on the right hand side. Try a different browser and see what happens.

@Mike, good lord that makes the forum unuseable!

I don't use the same setup, but as per the others, block the adverts and popups, it should improve things.

Unfortunately, Admin, can not change the way the forum is displayed, this is down to IB the owners.

However, if you don't want to be bothered with filters and stuff, go to User CP/Edit Options.

Scroll right down to the bottom and change the style to Default Skin, hit Save.

Then refresh the page.

You will see a marked change in how space is used on screen.

If you don't like it you can always revert back.

Exclamation Objectionable Ads

Hate to be the morality officer here, but it's gotta' be said. The ads for Anastasia. com are part of a sex industry criminal enterprise based in Russia and Columbia. a better venue for them might be the **** sites. This forum doesn't need them... see Snopes

Such banner ads are delivered by your browser and not by Forum owner, Internet Brands. To the best of my knowledge, anastasia.com have not been signed up as a forum sponsor although a Free Prize Draw could spark considerable interest.

Using a PopUp blocker is a good way of preventing this is increasingly annoying method of advertising from spoiling your enjoyment of the forums.

The anastasia.com site itself seems to be inactive at this time.

There is a domain at anastasiadate.com for which google happens to show paid top of the page ads at google.com when searching for anastasia.com

It would appear that the site buys advertising wherever it can. This would demonstrate that the income stream is sufficient to pay for the ads on an ongoing basis.

The topic of the site might not be for everybody, but if someone is foolish or desperate enough to sign up at a mail order bride site ...

BTW, wikipedia has an article on anastasiadates and it attributes the ownership to a couple based in New York City.
