Default New member pics and rules

Hi folks,
Just a couple of observations that might be worth considering.

In the New Member area there is a Sticky that requires New Members to read and remember the forum rules.

However there does not appear to be a dedicated quick link to 'Forum Rules' anywhere on this site. (this discovered when searching for the rule about signatures, I eventually found the required information burried in the FAQ section, which is BTW not specific to this Forum).

For me at least a 'FAQ' does not instantly imply a set of rules. Would it not be more appropriate to have a Sticky entitled 'Forum Rules' with a link directly to the 'FAQ'?

Also, when welcoming New Members we all routinely ask to see some pics. Of course with the new changes to the rules, a New Member is unable to post pics. For the benefit of all, should this not be mentionned?

Along the lines of 'New Members may only post pics after the Forum Qualifying period', without going into detail. That would make it too easy for the bad guys to get round.

All the best,
Richard

I'll bring it up in the moderator's room, but I was unaware that photo links, embedded images could not be performed by new members, only the photo gallery was off limits. It would not surprise me however if it were true.

Oh, I wanted to add, with the forum conversion several months back, we must've lost ALL of our FAQs that were not simply 'how to use the forum' in nature. It may have been removed.

If you have a good idea of what the 'Forum Rules' thread should say verbatum, shoot me an email or PM with all of the content you'd like to be available, and i'll add it directly to the post.

Good catch BTW.

Why is the photo gallery off limits to new members? I am an admin to another similar forum and we do not have such a limit?!

How much time (or how many posts) before a new member can see and post to the photo gallery?

The forum qualifying period is certainly a very interesting thing. Hope it gets lifted for me by the time the car arrives. Would love to post some pics!

Erik, to be sure you're 'prepared', simply dive into the on-topic, or off-topic posts and get to know some of our members, their 'unique' personalities, and ask questions.
Remember, there is a minimum post count prior to unlocking all of the available member features.

Looking into my crystal ball...you will be 'qualified' by that day.

Sounds excellent.
Will certainly do that.
Actually, you all will likely be wishing that I shut up soon.

Thanks!
Erik

I just bought my first Jag. I am asking that my new member restrictions be lifted. I am not a spammer or troublemaker of any kind. I ALWAYS respect ALL of the rulus when I post on forums.I am interested in modifications and other aftermarket products. When posting I ALWAYS include a photo to make my posts more interesting for members to view.

I just joined the forum due to the purchase of a 1999 XK8 for my wife. I would like full access to the site to see many of the helpful photos that are included with many of the posts.
