SNIPE Alert - Users Beware
Twice in as many days and on two different computers now when clicking on the link in my daily Jaguar Forum thread following emails, I have been directed to www.freesoftwareupdates.com claiming that I needed to update my software (first was Internet Explorer and second was Java) in order to view the site. Neither update claim is true and I can only conclude that this is an attempt to do something malicious to my computer(s).
As it has been a redirect in between the link - seemingly good for our forum - and actually arriving at the forum, I might also conclude that this SNIPE attempt is being generated by one of the advertisers on the forum template.
So, whatever you do, close your browser immediately upon being directed to this site and enter the site through a known good link or directly from your browser's address line.
To be clear, this has only happened when I click the link in a forum update email.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Can you please let me know if you are on a PC or Mac, the browser(s) you are using, and whether you also get redirected when using your browser's Incognito/Private browsing feature?
Thank you!
Thank you!
I use my PC, Windows Live Mail, Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit.
The same email received on my Iphone has a good link in it. Oh yes, I use Chrome.
I don't understand the redirect question. I get an email, and if the link is active, I click on it to open the browser.
FYI, I just received an email this afternoon, and it works ok.

Feel free to disregard the redirect question. That was for the issue that RCSynder reported in his initial post.

For me:
Win 7 Ultimate and Home Premium, 64-bit on both
IE v.11 on both
And I, too, do not know how to answer the incognito/private browser question. Sorry.
I've not verified since reported, but will let you know if it happens again.

Incognito/Private Browsing are browser options that allow you to visit a webpage without it adding cookies to your computer or being saved in your browser's history. IE 11 includes a similar mode called InPrivate Browsing. The option is turned off by default, so if you are unfamiliar with it, it most likely hasn't been enabled.
Please let me know if you continue to experience any redirects.
