I wanted to find a car that was as old as me, so if I couldn't reclaim my youth at least I could help my car to.
The pics show the progression. Body off, frame cleaned up and powder coated, suspension and running gear going back on.
I've lined up the body to be soda blasted so the body work can be started.

Very nice.

Keep us updated.

Is that your shop, looks like a fun place to work, looking at the background cars?

I am a member of the Fox Cities British Car Club of Oshkosh, WI.
It's located just west of the city and is a 14,000 sq.ft. building where we can work on our cars. I'm in the long term restoration building, there is another area for routine maint. with two lifts. It's a great club.

The club also has an english style Busted Knuckle Pub, a full kitchen, a meeting room with wide screen TV (Packer Games) and a carpeted Show Room for winter Storage. Card board under every car is provided free of charge.

How many members does it take to keep the place financed? What are the annual dues?

The club has about 100 members that pay an annual membership fee of $20.
Storing your car at the club gives you unlimited access to the building and the use of the facilities. The building will handle about 35 cars. Annual storage fee is $650.00 a year per vehicle.

I am rebuilding the power steering unit for my car and cannot find the O Ring set that it requires. Is there a set for the Burman unit? There are some very odd sizes that I cannot get through the usual channels.
Does anyone know of a source for these?
thanks
mike

How about this??

Size SPL-KT-MET, Specialty Kits SPL-KT-MET on Daemar Inc.

Many years ago I worked in a real honest Hardware Store.

We had a few of these and would make replacement O-Rings for people servicing all kinds of stuff like plumbing valves. Just find the right diameter cut to length and fuse it with the included adhesive.

Thank you for the tip!
I have put in a note to them to see if they offer the size I am looking for.

I would also like to inquire about swap outs or upgrades for the steering unit.
I had read somewhere that a person had swapped in a steering unit from a Chevy, which had greatly improved the responsiveness. But the details were lacking and I don't remember where I saw it posted. If the original gear box wasn't know for it's excessive leaking abilities even after a rebuild I wouldn't even consider it, but I think subtle upgrades such as this should at least be considered.
Along those same lines I have also heard that the 250 automatic transmission is another weak point. Has anyone had any experience with the upgrade to a TH700 transmission?
If anyone has any thoughts regarding either topic I would appreciate it.
thanks,
mike

Mike,

Just jumped on your thread.
I would love that facility doing a 420G on the drive, thats not so much the problem
but the bad british weather governs my progress.

Re upgrades I would personally keep it as standard as possible to keep the original feel
of driving a car of that earer.

My E-Type is all standard no 5 speed box, power steering etc etc which some people upgrade to and I believe spoil the driving experience.

When I was younger I had a BMW E30 325i I converted it to PAS and I so regretted doing it....

I look forward to the next set of images and update

thank you for your input Car-Nut. I would also like to keep it original for those very reasons. I hope I can find the parts I need.
