Mike,

If you source any parts in GB and suppliers wont ship abroad contact me and get them shipped to me and I'll re ship them to you.

I do it with a few of the guys in Oz on my dedicated symposium.

I agree with everyone. I am Very Very Very lucky to have these club facilities available, I'm sure I would not be doing this project if it wasn't here.

Other news, my resource from England, Simon at Worcester Classis Spares LTD has come through with an O Ring kit for my Steering unit.
That made my day.

Default mark VIII engine test stand

I'm waiting for my car to come back from the body shop so I've done some work on the engine. I wanted to test the engine before putting it in the car so i built a test stand.
It's been a life saver. Much easier to tune and fix leaks here and there on this stand then in the car. I've attached some photo's and a tube link for your viewing pleasure.

That is almost enough to make me want to move to WI.

No kidding! How can a relatively unpopulated area like that support a club with such facilities which are unheard of in most other places?

We have a British Car Club near me but they don't have a carport even.

Wow - that untrimmed body is a work of art in itself. Without all the external trim to distract the eye, it's much easier to appreciate all the surface detailing, how all the curves flow into each other - the work of a master of design. All the best in getting the old girl together - she will be gorgeous!

Jaguar Engine Stand - YouTube
I'm in awe of your engine test stand. Are there perhaps some design drawings available? I'm on what is likely my final whole car restoration - getting too long in the tooth to start another one. But I think that I could handle just redoing an XK engine as a stand alone project, so I had been thinking of building a test stand when I stumbled across your video. It looks like you have already invented the wheel!

wow, I was looking for "MK-8" in this section and found this thread, what an awesome car and restoration work.

I have a 1957 (print date and presumably for the 1958 Model Year) "Operating, Maintenance, and Service Handbook" for the "Jaguar 3½ Litre Mark VIII Model".

it is in near mint condition and includes a Jaguar Cars North America Dealer Listing booklet which is not in mint condition, someone wrote on it.

if you need this contact me via PM. I can be found at the XJ Series 1, 2, 3 forum and the Mark 1, Mark 2, S type forum.

Default Mark VIII

It has been awhile since I have sent an update. Progression has been steady. The wiring was a challenge but everything appears to be working correctly. A few gauges /clocks/sending units went out for repair and also work as advertised. Glass is installed/bumpers attached etc. Working on the interior now, I did have help with the headliner from an experienced upholsterer, was afraid to tackle it myself. Should finish the door panels and tool box installation this weekend.

Default 1958 Mark VIII update

Well I've installed the engine and transmission. Lots of little bugs to still work out. Leaks, leaks, leaks. Gas gauge is not working even though the sending units have been rebuild. Puzzling. Wipers park reverse. Puzzling two.
But it starts good and the automatic choke works perfectly.
It drives like a 4000# boat in high seas. I don't know if it's in need of an alignment or the suspension is just naturally this soft.
Power steering works well, maybe too well, I don't have much of a feel for the road. Perhaps I just need to get used to how it drives.
I have attached a short video of the first start.
Any clanging you may here is the fan hitting the radiator, since the video the engine has been moved back for better clearance.
