Hi everyone,
I just bought a new project car - a 1966 Mark X with the 4.2L equipped with triple SUs. The previous owner already did a decent paint job and wanted to do the interior which is already partly teared down but didn't finish what he planned to do because of the lack of time.
The engine has fresh oil and coolant as well as good spark plugs.
I wanted to start it but the ignition switch as well as the start button are disconnected and for this moment I didn't want to mess with the wiring.
Instead I wanted to start it by giving power to the starter solenoid to make the starter turn over and power to the coil to make the spark plugs fire. I would also hook up an electric fuel pump that would pump fuel from an external tank.
I used to do that once on a friend's Volvo 122.
It will sound stupid but when I looked at the Mark X starter I was a bit confused because I've never seen such a wiring at a starter in cars that I've worked on. I googled for wiring diagrams but unfortunately I didn't find any for this one. In cars that I've worked on you would have 2 thick wires going to one stud and a thin one going to a different, smaller one that gives power from the ignition switch.
In attachement you'll find a photo of my starter with all the wires numbered and the very upper connection marked with a circle that I think might be the one I should give 12V to.
I am asking though since I'm not 100% sure about that.
I would also really appreciate if you could tell me which wire at the starter is for what but the main thing is where should I give power to.
I'm looking forward to your answers.
Thank you in advance.
