Default How to remove wood trim w/cigar lighter in 'B' pillars

My 1960 Mark 9 has non-standard cigar lighters (0.9" diameter element instead of the relatively standard 0.8" diameter element), and I've been unable to find any source for them. Welsh Enterprises sold me complete lighter & socket assemblies with the proper handle but 0.8" diameter, with an appropriate trim to deal with the slightly larger hole, so I've decided to just install those.

My problem is that I can't figure out how to remove the roughly 10" piece of wood into which the cigar lighter mounts. Both sides slide up and down just a bit on my car, but they won't come off and I don't want to break anything. Does anyone know how these things come off?
