Eric,

You appear as new, so firstly, welcome to our world.

Nothing is impossible, but I reckon this one comes close.

The MK5 is a king pin front suspension, from memory?????. The MK9 etc are balljoint suspension, having very different upper and lower arm set ups.

If the arms of a MK9 will fit the pivot arrangement of the MK5, then yes.

The master cylinder, booster etc alterations would also be a challenge, again from dim memory. The MK5 is under floor, and the MK9 is pendant.

I suggest reposting this in the MK5 section, as those guys will know for sure.

Grant,
I didn't realize there was a Mk.5 section - how do I find that?
The Mk.5 is not a kingpin arrangement but is definitely ball joint. The Mk.5 suspension is very much like the Mk.7 (and presumably like the 8 and 9) - so I think there is a good chance that the 9's front suspension will fit the 5 - but I am not sure enough to try and buy the Mk.9 bits.
I am intending to try to fit the 5 with a Series 2 XJ6 engine and auto, Mitsubishi L300 power steering, pendant pedal twin circuit power brakes, modern leather seats (possibly E-Series Falcon) etc. etc. My basic aim is to have a car that runs like an E-Series Falcon but looks like a Mk.5. After many years of driving Falcons I have no desire to go back to driving a truck-like Mk.5 - a car I was very familiar with some years ago.
I don't know if this will cause Mk.5 owners to rain scorn down upon me (I have already had a bit of this) - but I should point out that this Mk.5 is a pretty sad rusty old bomb with a totally ruined engine. One important thing about the more modern parts is that, compared to rebuilding the original Mk.5 bits, the modern parts are almost at giveaway prices. The (allegedly) good-running XJ engine and auto I got for $150. Anyhow- that is the basic story - I would be interested to know if this sort of conversion of a Mk.5 has been done before (and surely it has).

Well that makes it easier in my opinion.

Your plan is fine, its your car, so let it rain if that is what they want.

I power steered my old S (Hyundai rack, BMW pump), fitted a BW65 in lieu of that "lovely" DG, and integrated air conned it. Most of which was deemed as molesting by the others.

We are Aussies, and damn thick skinned, well I am, and grumpy too apparently.

In the "main forum" page you will see below the XK.... section, the MKV - X 420G area, thats it.
