Mark 7 getting oil pressure up
Hi...quick question.
My mk7 has been parked for many many years..im currently sorting out some lucas gremlins which ive covered in my thread in the "introduction" section.
ive wound it over on the key plenty..both with plugs in and out...but the oil pressure gauge wont even flicker...oil is clean, but i havnt replaced it with fresh stuff yet...is there a trick to get oil pressure up before startup?..ive had to drop the bottom cog off a holden v8 dizzy and attach my cordless drill to the shaft before to build up oil pressure in a v8 holden..do the jags work on a simalar principal?...any way to see if its just a dicky gauge?..I dont want to ruin my engine before project jag even starts

The dist. drive is geared to the crank and the oil pump is driven directly from the dist. drive. Turning the crank is the only easy way to turn the oil pump.
The small pipe from the filter housing is the gauge feed so you could remove the pipe and see if oil is discharged from the filter housing fitting during cranking.
It is better to put a gauge on the fitting but oil 'squirting out' might be good enough to tell.

,thats just the info i needed, ill pull the pipe off next time im playing with it..vintage jags are very new to me,and i dont want to ruin my donk
If I were you I'd try to get some oil onto/down the valve guides. Standing a long time means the valve stems have no immediate lube and can sometimes be a bit lazy coming back. Usually this will be when the engine first starts, not when slowly turning it over on the starter motor.
