Default Mark X (Mark Ten)

Just wondering, does ANYONE on this forum have a Mark Ten or 420G?
If so what condition?
Do you drive it often?
What have been your issues or concerns with this car?

I have lusted after a MK 10 for a few years now and finally got one, a 1962 version.
even though it is NOT a V12, oh well it sure could use one though.
I wanted a right hand drive car but this one was such a DEAL!!

So? Speak to me forum people!

Hello Translator:

I have picture issues. Every time I try to upload pics I fail in an epic way.
I do have teenagers present to help me though and I shall try.
Furthermore Mr. Spitfire has instructed me but I have forgotten.
He will see the car in the metal very soon and without doubt if I haven’t figured it out he will post for me.
He loves embarrassing slightly older fellows I think.

The "Big old girl" is in excellent shape physically given the cars extensive history of sheltered storage but limited use. I did make a thorough examination on a hoist before the deal was made.

Her issues are mainly in the engine it has plug wires that look as old as the car and although it runs well enough to drive it to the mechanic after it was delivered to me,
There is backfiring and old fuel to drain and I suspect an air leak or timing adjustments will be in order etc.
All in all a sound car that simply no one has been considerate enough of to drive for the best part of ten years is all.
These cars (ALL JAGUARS) need exercise, an area that none of my cars fall short in.
I expect to have it roadworthy by this coming Thursday night for our "FLU" (Fiat Lancia Unlimited) festival here in Woodbridge just north west of Toronto. I think our Thursday in Woodbridge may even beat out the ACE cafe!? Don’t quote me on that though. Very cool people there. Even welcome our Jaguars to the party.

Hi 'Not Quite JV12', I understand. Well if you can't get the pics out before Thursday I am sure that Spitfire will be able to help.

(There is a thread about uploading pics in the Forum Help/Suggestion section, basically if you are using Photobucket, chop off the [IMG] tags at both ends when you copy the link into the image upload box in the tool bar above)

No worries folks! I'll look after the, er, 'ol timer'. Makes me wonder if his VCR is still flashing 12:00....

I wasn't able to make it to Woodbridge this past Thursday, but will be seeing JustV12 this coming Wednesday at the Ontario Jaguar Owners Association meeting. Hopefully he'll bring the Mk X. Hint, hint....

I'll post some photos once I get back home.

Cheers,
Rob

That's the spirit Rob, we'll wait. I am sure it will be worth it. Try and get a group shot if you can.

A group shot sounds like a grand idea!

Notice I said VCR and not DVD? His VCR sits next to his Tandy computer.... lol! (better be careful how I poke fun - I'm sure it will be reciprocated in kind )

OK Spitfire, I am going to tell you right now that Beta is far superior to VHS.

AND the OJOA meeting starts at eight PM but be there at 7:30 for some bench racing and introductions.

MK 10 is still at the mechanic!!! Panic I need it for a special event this next weekend!!

Waiting for tune up parts??? (What...)

Will silver car be ready Wednesday??

Or not ready?

Stay tuned and see!

Worst case I will pick another colour and be there with something leaperish...
Now I am going to try to upload a Betamax version of my photo collection.

Proudly Just V 12 AGAIN (the BRG VDP is alive and well!)

PS: That means I have a total of 48 Jaguar cylinders to feed.

So as things progress I have some updates on the MK 10.
It was appraised at two and a half times what I paid for it. That cannot be a bad thing. For those who are not in the know this last weekend I officially married Mrs V12. It is after 20 years and 7 as a couple, officially legal. For the record all four of the kids are thrilled beyond imagination. My "awesome stepson" is now LEGALY my "awesome stepson".

The big old beautiful MK 10 delivered the beautiful bride (who is a ten) without a hitch and we have put several hundred trouble free miles on her without a hitch.

Now I must send the pics to spitfire to post for me here. Think I will do that now...

Hey, congratulations JustV12 and now Mrs JustV12, great news indeed.

We'll let you off for the delay with the pics, evidently you have been a little busy.

Look forward to Spitfire's upload.

All the best to you and your family for the future.

I have finally tracked down and shot (photowise ) the elusive prey - the Jaguar Mark 10. There were numerous sightings over the last couple of weeks - a mechanics shop, a wedding and finally, where I found her - at the British Car Day in Oakville yesterday. Seeing her in her natural habitat, amongst all the other Jaguars was a beautiful sight! I've also managed to shoot her owners, Mrs JustV12 and another fellow who "claims" to be Mr. JustV12. I think he might have been just a random spectator at the event.

In all seriousness, it was an absolute phenomenal day! It was good to see JustV12 and his better half as well as Radclyffe from the forums there!

Hope you enjoy the pics!

Beautiful, car's not so bad either

Worth the wait.

Has the body been restored or is that the original condition, I wish my much newer XJ40 was half as good?

Thanks Spitfire

Wow, what a great thread
One which I had seen but has recently been brought to my attention by Translator due to the beautiful condition of the car for its age, the write up by one of our techs ( midway during marriage preparations ) and the time taken by Spitfire to help post up the pics.
Thanks to V12 and Spitfire for this, much appreciated.
JustV12....Congrats on a great lookin car and tying the knot to Mrs V12 who looks beautiful too I might add

Hopefully Spitfire has shown you how to upload pics so we can see more? If not just check out the help n suggestion centre as there's a how to there, or ask and either myself or one of the mods will be happy to talk you through it!

All the best

WOW, what a car . I saw Mark IX in person but this one looks even more classy and seems longer than Series III may be XJ40
Thanks for the pics

Hello all here I am finally and thanks for all the good words.
The Mark ten is physically the largest Jaguar ever produced a record that stands today.
Meaning, yes indeed it is much larger than an XJ40) by more than a foot in length and more than a foot in width. It has a formidable presence on the highway (motorway) and driving one in these modern days tends to cause traffic jams as well as gawkers who insist on staying in your blind spot while they admire the car.
All in good sport though.

A special thanks to Spitfire for uploading these pics.

Was anyone here at British Car Day in Bronte Park?

If so you would have seen the MK 10 in person completely unaware that it was THE Mark 10 so there you go.

JustV12.

Funny you say that. MK 10 had the same effect on Spitfire.

Look for MrsV12 to have her own say on this very forum! Coming soon!
