Question Mark X V12 Engine Swap anyone?

Hi All,

I have a 1965 Mark X project car, and a 1970 V12 engine.... interested in putting the two together but not sure about the total cost once I get started.... still in the investigation phase... keen for advice from anyone who has done something similar.

I personally think that most engine swaps are never easy, even when people make kits to make it easier. When you do something not done before or at least a swap where there is no kit available then you better be highly skilled and even if you use shops or if you use a lot of your own labor, you need to not have issues with money as it will inevitably cost more than you plan.... It can be a great end result but 80% of the project cars never get done because a number of things get too difficult and usually too expensive.

Check the width of the engine bay. I looked at putting a V12 into A Daimler DS420, which is Mark X based and I think there was less than 1/2" clearance over the width. I would have had to remove the engine to change the air filters....

Is your 1970 V12 a European or North American spec engine? If NA, you'd get just as much power and much better fuel economy by putting in an AJ16 engine from a 1995-97 XJ6 and also using the 4 speed transmission.

I did it on my mk10 with a 6 liter from a 1995 xjs... it's doable, but not a simple task.

I had to remove at least 15lbs of metal from the car before it would even fit in.
I also grafted front and rear suspension to the body tub to make it stop and turn equally well as go-fast.

Do you have pictures or some of a guideline how you did it? A friend of mine is starting a project like this with a 6.0 X300 V12. I have stripped an X300 to the bare necessary parts needing the car to start and drive. So that was step one of many.

I did a full write-up on a different board. it's a mk10 specific group and the knowledge there is on point with the big cars...

Lots and lots of cutting... I removed over 15lbs of metal from the car in order to make it fit.... also modification of the crossmember and tunnel for trans clearance.

The Jaguar Mk10 & 420G Owners Symposium

It's in member's cars listed as frankenstein mk10

Default The 420 is a smaller end car by lehth, width and grace.it should hold a v12 I think.
