Default Removal of MK IX Window Frames

I want to have the window frames re-chromed. I have removed all the hardware, and loosened the four screws for the window regulator (winding mechanism) for the rear windows. With the door open, the frame won't clear the drip edge of the roof. With the door closed, I can tilt the frame enough to clear the drip rail, but the frame won't slide up.

Obviously there is a secret to the removal?

Looks like you may have to take the door off ! Only other thing I can think of is to release the door stop to allow the door to open slightly wider, but you'll have to be very careful to make sure it doesn't swing into the front door and dent it.
