I'm sharing my planning for today here, which shall involve two British cars among others you might find interesting. Amazing October weather, but this is best done now, since it won't last.
First, I have to move the snow bucket for the Bobcat to get at the V-plow for the Unimog. I still need the regular bucket on the Bobcat to move some gravel I'll be getting delivered to improve the old log road that goes to the back of our 60 acres. I'll then install the plow, and re-position the 'Mog from the barn to it's winter position nearer the driveway. Oh, I'll have to drive it over to the diesel tank, which I'm pretty sure has winterized fuel in it.
Oh, the poor Bugeye Sprite got only one run so far this year, so I'll take it out once it gets warmer. I've cleared leaves off the road to the barn, but I might have to smooth it out with the excavator, which can then be returned to its winter space back in the barn. I think a run up to Schroon Lake would be nice, for a chili dog, then back into the barn until, alas, Spring. Or maybe not: I'm considering painting it. I've never painted a car before, but I can't make it worse, and it's conveniently small. A Mazda 5-speed might be in its future, too.
After completing various jobs in the garage, the '82 Porsche 911 and '88 Toyota MR2 can return from the barn, sharing stall #3 (four-post lift). They will join the '66 Mk 10 (stall #2, two-post lift) and '87 Porsche 928 (stall #1 - pod must come out for an odometer gear). I don't like running cars for short distances, so they'll each get a run around the lake, and perhaps fed some ethanol-free for the winter.
I just sold another MR2, so there should easily be room in the barn for the old F150, the mower and the Gator. My stalled-out '63 Studebaker Lark project will remain an annoyance, however.
The feature movement today, however, will be taking the Mk 10 twenty miles to Mario's Garage, a car-themed restaurant near Lake George. It will create a stir.
OK, here's an old photo of three Porsches. I still own the '82 911 Euro and the '87 928. I once owned the '09 Cayman S, but traded it for the 911 with a local guy about ten years ago. I still see it around town, and also the Macan the same guy bought from me.
First, I took Norleen and Bert for their first ride in the Mk 10. I bought the car from them, just a few miles away. The car was bought new for Norleen's Aunt Bonnie in 1966, in Las Vegas. They got it from her estate about five years ago, in a non-running condition. Norleen was thrilled to actually ride in it, a first since she was a kid.
Second, I am indeed repainting the Bugeye/Frogeye. What a mess that has made of the garage. Bondo dust. The car has far more damage than I knew, and I now know for sure that it was raced, elbows out. I found small traces of the original color, kind of a turquoise blue. A little out of character for me, but everyone thinks it's got a huge wow factor. I like wow, so that's what it will be. Turns out my wife's cousin loves grinding and sanding. He comes over to work every day, even when I'm not there. I've even gotten him started on metal work (some small rust repairs are in the works).
Third, that tank of diesel I mentioned that I thought had been winterized? Apparently not. The Unimog didn't like it after a cold snap. There were many failed attempts to get it going, but my fingers hate the cold. I had other equipment for plowing, so waited until a few days ago to get it going. It's back in its summer home, the barn.
The two Porsches have been out for some Spring exercise. Running well.
I'll spare you the horror story of rusty brake lines on our 2018 Tesla. The hazards of buying a car designed in California by surfer dudes, blissfully unaware of the effects of salt and the notion that they should be accessible for replacements.
Yesterday, I helped push a loaner Pontiac GTO out of the museum I volunteer at. A special GTO: a MonkeyMobile! We all climbed in afterwards. A car for the next exhibit arrived soon afterwards, a 300SL Gullwing. Wow. And the owner drove it to Saratoga from Boston!
