Description:

Reluctantly selling my 5 speed manual converted '95 XJR, '97 XJR parts car, and lot of spare parts due to lack of space. Have a clean SD title for the '95 and clean TX title for the parts car. There are less than 300 manual X300 XJRs worldwide and maybe a handful of converted cars in the states.

This car was converted several owners ago purportedly using a wrecked DB7. It's been repainted (poorly) a black cherry purple sort of color. It also has a tan XJ6 interior. She's a bit of a mongrel, but runs smooth, handles well, and the AC blows cold. Radio has issues and heated seats are inop. Heater is also questionable. Power windows, locks, and sunroof all function. No key lock on the trunk (still opens with button on the decklid and on the instrument pod). Trans will need a rebuild eventually, but it's a Getrag 290 (same gearbox as early GMT400 trucks).

This is a rolling project and would be a good candidate for a fun driver quality restoration. Lots of work has been done, will update ad later with more details.

$4000 FIRM for the whole package. Not ready to separate. Only will trade for Italian motorcycles with clean titles or high quality firearms.

Can you elaborate more on the status of the 5-speed? What leads to believe it will need a rebuild?

It would also be helpful if you could point me in the direction of rebuild information. I can't claim to have done an exhaustive search, but as far as I can tell GM never sold a vehicle with the getrag 290. The GMT400 had a trans from new venture gear called the NV3500 and it looks quite different as it is meant for a 4wd truck. I am probably just missing something though so any help would be great.

Would be confident in the '95 being able to drive to CA?

Hi Daniel,

The gearbox is a little recalcitrant going into second when cold. It gets better once it gets warmed up and doesn’t pop out of gear though. Still, it’s something I wanted to be upfront about. Might be the nature of the gearbox, but I had planned to pull it in the next few years and have it done as preventative.

You're right- most GMT400 manuals were NV3500s, but some were shipped with a Getrag 290. Not sure if the bolt pattern is the same or not though.

Last fall, I did a little over 500 mile road trip and the car did fine. Personally, I would ship it versus driving it. I shipped it from Boston when I got it and it cost me $1000 in 2017.

If you have any other questions, feel free to call me.

(469) FIVE 6 THREE -260 UNO

Cheers,

Ethan

My xj sport could use that driver's seat. I'd buy it, and put my current seat in your parts car. We are local as well. My dad may be interested in the xjr manual trans car. I'll let you know.

Ethan,
I'll give you a call next week (look for 424 area code). I really can't find any information on a G290 rebuild and generally Getrag isn't big on selling parts. At least that was the case in the g280 in the M5 where people often swap in g260's out of 535i's. The V160 in the Supra is also a replace only situation. If there is a truck trans on the market that I can buy a replacement for and then swap parts into your trans it might work well. My real interest here is having a drivetrain for a swap and one way or another I'm going to have to find a way to get a 5-speed behind one of these great Jag 4L engines. In the process of researching this I've started to entertain the idea of also driving one of these x306 XJR's. So, having the engine (+door sills...they looks great) from your parts car and a running XJR to run around in could be an interesting option.

I’ll admit I haven’t done much research into the rebuild process. I had planned to take it to a local shop and see if they could handle it. I’m interested to hear about your swap, what’s your plan? XJS, Series III?

Will be posting on eBay at the end of the week. Really would prefer to sell to someone here, but I need to move these cars.

$3500 for the whole package. Both cars and all the spares.

Again, not really interested in trades unless you've got a Ducati, MV Agusta, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi, or higher end firearms.

The '95 has sold. Going to a Jag enthusiast

Make me an offer on the parts car! I'd like $500 for it since it does have a clean TX title, but I want it off my driveway haha.
