Is 1/2" between the rear tire and the spat sufficient clearance or too little ?
Against some good advice, I'm going all Mike Hawthorn on my Mark 1 rear track and installing wheel spacers to increase the track . My proposed setup would leave only 1/2" of free space between the spats and the tires. Is this too little space so that the tires would then rub the spats while driving??? this is not a race car, just normal driving. Thanks for your thoughts !

It might not seem much, but, as I recall, it's not far from what I had on my Mk2. Hopefully, someone who has a Mk2 in one piece can confirm or deny. If there's contact, you have the option of the slender type spats.
What sort of spacer are you using? Hubcentric or lugcentric ...?
I think the ones I'm looking at are hubcentric, but I really don't know the difference. The spacer hub hole is 74mm which should be about perfect ?

You will want to make sure the panhard rod and rubbers are in good shape.
Even then things might be a bit "squeezy"
I presume you have open spats rather than early full depth spats.
Ther is not a lot of clearance at the bottom of the full depth spats Full depth spats on my MK1
Yes, I do have the open spats. I'm concerned about the hub bore clearance on these spacers though, I really ponder if the 74mm is sufficient. Also, the studs from the new spacer (12m x 1.5) that would hold the wheel itself are 0.56" diameters, which is very tight in my stock rim's lug nut holes. So, I'm not quite ready to pull the trigger on these spacers yet.
Beautiful Mark1 Bill ! I love that color.
