Default 1966 S Type Overdrive

I have a problem with my S Type overdrive going in, which started about a year ago and got progressively worse over several weeks until now it will only drive under a very light load and kicks out as soon as the throttle is moved. I've checked just about everything, changing the oil, cleaning filters, flushed out and blown dry inside as best I can, ball valves and springs etc cleaned. For some time now I have suspected the pump is not producing enough pressure for some reason or other, Has anyone got any better ideas? All the electrics are fine and it will always freewheel in top gear with the lever engaged and kicks back into direct top gear instantly when flicked out.

Anyway, in the realisation it will need serious surgery, I have now got hold of a complete gearbox and overdrive unit, reputedly from an XJ6, from a scrap man who said he got it from clearing out a widow's garage as her husband had been a Jaguar enthusiast. He also had other stuff - long story short.

The number on my car's gearbox is 28 / 61740 / 001198 and the information on the newly acquired gearbox is Laycock Compact A Type 28 / 60572 / 001537.C They look very similar, with just a few very small differences, and seem to measure about the same. It's tricky to be exact, with the bulky rear gearbox mounting on the car. Can someone confirm that this newly acquired overdrive.will fit my gearbox and also, if needed, the new gearbox will fit my '66 S 3,8 S Type?

Thank you in anticipation,

Ray, in Dull South Norfolk
