1967 420 restoration
I am dying to get it done but I have not found anyone who knows the 3.8 engine around here, and Cass reneged after he offered to come do it and I offered him accomodation and pay. Sure I know he was just kidding but I took him seriously because I think he knows the engine ins and outs. ..
ps I would prefer to go to South Africa than Florida anyway.
There must be plenty of places in the USA who could rebuild Jose's engine.
This forum could possibly recommend any number of shops capable of doing the job.
Jose should not be putting pressure on another forum member to do a job he doesn't want.
I have had similar situations personally in the past in other areas (not here) that I should feel obliged to assist someone because I am an accredited aircraft electrical/ instrument engineer, highly qualified flight test pilot, aircraft owner and completed a 5-year apprenticeship as a radio/radar technician before I was 21. Honestly, I get sick and tired of this sort of approach.

Cass Read what I wrote! I said I knew you were only kidding! But had you accepted, of course I would not expect you'd do it free! And I knew the logistics would be difficult.
Billmac I never would demand help from anyone, I can do most everything myself, except rebuilding engine and transmission. Not my area of expertise. I have disassembled and reassembled MG, Volvo, Saab, and Jaguar since 1969, except rebuilding their engines and transmissions. I know my limitations and prefer an expert do the latter. I have never purported to know more about engines than anybody else.

Folks, let's go easy on one another. Forums, like e-mail fall into a conversational style of communication without the benefits of all the non-verbals, eye contact, tone of voice etc. It's too easy to escalate stuff that wouldn't normally cause a problem. I appreciate the points that you all have made, including going off topic, of which I'm probably the greatest offender. Though I enjoy the off topic discussion so long as it's vaguely automotive or technical. Now we're all way off the thread of Mr Snyder's 420 restoration. Out of respect to him and each other, let's return to the subject of taking care of our old cars.

Incidentally a search on Google for - Jaguar 240 SU fuel pump "jaguarforums.com" - yields this thread as the 10th result, so not so difficult to find is it?
Jeff ~ your intentions are good but we are going OT again. Let's help DSnyder and I put my hand up. I am equally to blame. I'm continuing with his car radio query. To my knowledge the machining is long done on Jose's engine from his previous comments. It's a matter of assembly unless it's been sitting at the machine shop for months untouched.

I am going to attempt a fuel pump refresh tomorrow and see if I can get it started. Is there anything I can run through the fuel lines to clean out gunk and varnish, like evaporust or thinner? I haven't really worked with varnished lines and carbs much.
Gonna have the same questions for coolant (the block) and brake lines, since none of them look services maybe ever, certainly in the last 20 years. Carb rebuild once I have it running for more than 3 seconds.

I searched into the early hours of the morning & could not find the site. It's like a library of car radios of all vintages ~ not trying to sell them. I should have saved it. I can find your manufacturer (Davis Radio Corporation) but so could you by a simple internet search.

I have purchased leather seat covers through this place and I’m happy with mine and it’s in the US. The worst case scenario is that you carefully remove your seat covers and send it to them to recreate.
It is a shame he has called your S Type a 420 though Glyn. Sacrilege. Should have his bits put in a vice.
