Default Almost ready to paint

My 62 mk2 body is primed and mostly sanded and almost ready for paint. I still have the old moulding rivets on the car. My question is (1) should all rivets be replaced? (2) how do you remove them and (3) how does one install new rivets?
Any thoughts are much appreciated, Tommyrae

The rivets are held on by pop rivets, if you drill them out you can fix them back on if they are in sound condition with a normal pop rivet through the centre. I always change them as they don't tend to be salvable on the cars I work on.

I would always remove them before respraying as the thickness of paint could make it difficult to get the trims back on, especially if its been primed and then sprayed.

Have you made a decision on what paint system you are going to use? I wish I had used it on my car but we started too early so it's painted with Spies Hecker. I can highly recommend the Glasurit water based base coat with their low VOC nano ceramic clear coat. It is highly durable and can be spot repaired without even the most vague hint of mismatch. Used by the German big three & many others today. Lifetime warranty etc.etc. No more having to paint a whole panel if someone bangs their door into you etc. (I have no affiliation with BASF their owners)

Just had shopping trolley & damage done by a large stone fixed on my Benz by spot repair & it's perfect. (Iridium silver metallic). The pros' will tell you that metallic green is one of the most difficult colours to match. Even that can be spot repaired without any sign & reds don't fade.

Sorry if I sound like a Glasurit Rep. PPG have a similar system but I can personally vouch for Glasurit on a number of family cars.

BTW ~ no delamination on lead wiped seams etc. because it's inert.

I'm an **** Virgo.

Haven't decided on a system yet but will check this out. I am painting her a metallic silver or, possibly, pearl silver. I am looking for the right silver right now. ...something that really shows off the MK2. Thoughts?

Have you had a look at the Ian Callum car. Nice colour. I particularly like Jaguar Gun Mettle Metallic Grey from the mid 60's. (not the same as the Callum colour)

BTW ~ if you don't have the paint code with the Glasurit system you just put a spectrophotometer on the color you like & out pops a perfect match.

Will look for a pic for you. You might like lighter, darker or different. Your choice obviously.

Callum car

Callum's car is beautiful. Interesting choice of his to reduce the chrome trim. Also like the relocation of the fuel fill. The color may be a bit dark for me as light colors absorb less heat in this unrelenting California sun.

Understood living in Africa. Iridium Silver is light & somewhat reflective.

This is German Iridium Silver from Sindelfingen. Wheels are Sterling Silver.
