Touch-Up Paint
Wild Bill, I go to an automotive paint store and get an entire quart of paint. You might be able to get a pint. Either way, plan on spending about $20 for a container of single stage paint (has the gloss coat already in the paint). Then you can use a small paint brush or a tooth pick to apply the paint and do the touch ups you need. This will also give you enough paint that if you need to repaint something small on the car (single door, trunk, etc), you will already have the paint for that. Because you live up north, the likelihood of faded paint is not as bad as if you lived more down south. So, no real worry there.
If you need more help, let me know. A little trick that I have found is to thin the paint down about 20-30% with paint thinner. This will help the paint settle in the low spots of a chip and what not, leaving a smoother finish once you are done. The downside to this is you need to have the surface that you are painting parallel to the ground. If you are painting the side of the car, you want the paint to be as thick as you can make it and then apply the minimum you can.

Is gloss coat the same effect as clearcoat, or do you still need to clearcoat?
Thanks,
Bill

Bill, clear coat, gloss coat, different names for the same thing. I have been know to use single stage paints and then put a clear coat over the top of them to give them a little bit extra gloss to the paint. But, for touch up, that shouldn't be needed.

This is a bit off topic, but it does involve touch-up paint.
I bought my X-Type (and my XK8) from a local dealer who doesn't sell new Jags, but clean used Jags and Range Rovers, as well as good service. As it happened, though, I was passing the local 'New' Jag dealer today, and decided to pop in for a touch-up kit for the X. (BRG) The showroom was impressive, a bit austere, but full of new Jags. A very nice young Receptionist pointed me towards Parts, where a young man offered to help me, but was forced to apologize that he was out of BRG touch-up. He offered to order some in, but confided that "the new owner of Jag doesn't like green" so they don't carry green paint (or cars, for that matter) any more. He suggested that I might have better luck if I sought out a place that specialized in "Collectables" (like my '03) rather than the newer stuff. It's not that he was rude or anything, but I felt like I had accidentally wandered out of a soup kitchen into a private men's club! I hope Jag does well with their new clientele, because they won't get many of us older ones back with that attitude!

^ That somewhat depresses me, if someone wants a car in green, they buy a car in green. It doesn't matter if the owner likes it or not. It should be what the customer wants, not the owner.
If he was referring to Tata Motors, then he ought to spend less time on twatter.
automotivetouchup.com I ordered touch up paint from them for several cars including my jaguar, its not ready made and it blended according to your color code. I reccomend them to anyone that needs touch up paint.
I've used automotivetouchup.com as well before.
