Please help me out here. I'm in the middle of a full restoration of a '60 Mark 2 money pit. Since a few of the original steel brake lines were rusted out, I decided to replace all. I ordered a Cunifer brake pipe set from SNG, #GL5504. But the end fittings in the set are a standard cone shaped while the fittings on my Mark 2 are reverse cone. See the photos. I assume they're incompatible so I'll have to return the brake pipe set. What do you do about this? And in the new master cylinder I just received they're one of each! Really? Anyone willing to explain this to me? The Cunifer set An existing brake line
I bought a roll of brake pipe and a flaring tool so I could make my own. As GL5504 is all cut to the correct lengths it would be pointless buying a flaring tool and changing the fittings yourself. I would contact SNG and tell them what it is that you require. GL5504 is stated as special order so presumably they can change the fittings to whatever you ask for. First make a list of the pipes you need and the fittings on each one then contact SNG and explain what you need. I am sure they would have a set made up to your requirements.Photos in the explanation are always good as you have shown.
I fitted my S Type with a set of Automec Cunifer brake lines from Barratts ~ Bright green box. Excellent quality & fit. It takes Automec 15 minutes to make up a set of pipes for the Mk2 with all fittings.
Send them pics. Make this Barratt's problem. But don't use them for technical support.
For a technical chat phone or contact Automec direct. They will sort out what you need. They have done an awful lot of Mk2 pipe sets. They also know what changes were made when by Jaguar.

Are those brake lines copper or steel coated with copper. I am interested because our Department of Transport in Queensland, Australia forbids the use of copper brake lines
Cheers

Bill.
Automec make in two forms. Pure copper or Copper Nickel Iron, to meet German TUV standards etc. Cunifer is an alloy of copper (Cu), nickel (Ni) and iron (Fe)
I presume that Queensland would demand Cunifer (Copper Nickel Iron as do the US, Germany etc.. Automec only sell Cunifer to the US). I know NSW accepts Cunifer from living in Sydney.

I had a feeling that would be the case as I mention above. I just did not want to bugger around with somebody's safety & brakes. Thanks Peter. Preferred they heard it from Automec.
