Caution with Car Upholstery Interior Materials Maintenance
I just wanted to post this as a caution to keep bugs out of your car & the possible requirement for bug spray now and again. I'm not picking on BAS but these swatches were sent to me 6 years ago and have been stored in my garage. They insisted on sending me these when I asked them if new consoles had been moulded/manufactured by anybody for the S Type as they always slump over time.. I had already told them I was using John Skinner for all my interior materials. BAS headlining has always been wrong. It is thin hard foam backed & shows brush strokes in it's pile. The correct material for an S Type is lambswool Union Cloth. Note what bugs have done to the supposedly Wilton Wool Carpet & Moquette. Both chewed down to their backing in places & colors are not correct Biscuit.
This is the best scan I can take due to various thicknesses of materials: From left to right the swatches are. Wilton Wool Carpet, Connolly Leather (my genuine Connolly hide is about twice as thick as this), Hardura, Vinyl Non-expandable, Moquette, Space for Ambla Expandable (not provided) & Headliner.
Obviously Connolly hide requires the be fed on a regular basis. Genuine Ambla is real tough stuff.
I have personally applied bug spray to my Moquette. It is a known favourite of bugs.
Bill, having lived in your beautiful country for a long period of time I know you have similar bugs to us in SA.
Peter's idea of a bug zapper/fryer with UV light attraction in your garage is a good one as is a dehumidifier in the UK. A dehumidifier in SA drys out your leather & is not desirable.
I believe that BAS is using split leather ~ not a good idea.

in these sub-tropical areas these bugs are a continuous ongoing problem.
They do slacken off in winter but are still active.
My biggest problem however is mud wasps of many various types who will build nests in any opening with amazing rapidity.
I have had to put mesh coverings over the breather/overflow pipes on the SU carbies of my MK1 and MK2.
A problem in a door lock on my X300 turned out to be a wasp nest built on top of the lock. mechanism.
Also an occasional snake problem. One decided to make itself at home on my S3XJ6. It was a non-venomous python. A carpet snake between the cam covers. It certainly deters any rats and mice.
Mud wasps are a major problem at Brisbane airport. They have been known to block pitot tubes in under one hour. There is a special NOTAM (notice to airmen) on the matter.
All international flights have their pitot and static openings covered immediately and coverings only removed just prior to engine start.
Domestic flights with short turnaround times are generally OK but longer times e.g. overnight or parked for maintenance require covering.
