Connecting Rods on a 3.8
Something I noticed today while pushing the wrist pin bushings out of the connecting rods on my 1962 3.8 motor that I'm not sure about. There is a hole drilled on the very end of the rods that leaves a burr on the inside of the bore where the bushings are pressed into. Is this something overlooked by the factory or is it left there intentionally to be an anti-rotation device? I tend to think that as thin as the bushings are that the burr could create a tight spot to the pin. I didn't want to remove the burrs until I found out for sure. I've rebuilt many air-cooled VW motors and V-8s but, this is my first Jaguar rebuild.
disclaimer: without seeing a pic or ever disassembling a jag's connecting rod...
i would have to guess that the hole probably serves as some sort of oiling access for the bushing/wrist-pin connection. in any event i'm guessing the relief between wrist pin and bushing is generous enough to never become so great as to overwhelm the bushing to connecting rod press-fit, burrs notwithstanding.
short answer...i wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for the replies. I thought all along that the press fit of the bushings would keep the oil passage lined up but, I wanted to be sure before I deburred them. The hole in the very end of the small end of the rod to the outside doesn't seem to have a purpose. Thanks again.
i think there is reason to believe, but admittedly have absolutely NO first hand experience with XK engine connecting rods, that the connecting rod's small end wrist-pin bushing needs to be drilled to match that small hole in the top of the small end of the connecting rod. maybe this is what you are referring to, i can't be sure, (never scored too highly on reading comprehension tests..)
anyway, you might want to do some research. i found this: https://forums.jag-lovers.com/t/oil-...n-rod/360896/2
