Default Dismantling steering column UJs

Hi all,

So diagrams in workshop manual show the steering column UJs as separate parts, and they are fitted with circlips. Removing the circlips is straightforward but then there's no obvious way to separate the 4-way roller/pivot from the UJ... And no description I can find.

Has anyone had any luck trying this? I have a very rusty one that needs replacing!

Cheers,

B

Yours looks a little rusty.
Here's a video on how they come apart.
The cups that house the needle bearing are pressed in there.
Even after the cir-clips have been removed, they have to be pressed out.

It's in a Chevy, but they are all the same.

It worked! Lots of penetrating oil the night before, and I dremelled one of the circlips back to clear the cap and pressed it out. Went with a loud bang and jumped 1\4" but its out. Removing the other circlip was then easy - have to drive the cups the rest of the way out just like in the video, then its easy to remove the joint.

Many thanks!
