Default Steering Column Locked and Won't Start

I've re-charged a previously flat battery. It's standing voltage is 13V and my battery tester shows it's delivering plenty of amps. However I'm getting numerous fault codes and the car won't start and I get the message "Steering Column Locked" and "Gear box Fault". My Stop / Start button is also flashing (is this normal?). My CTEK charger seems to be happy with the battery and says it's charged 100%, and I've tried locking / unlocking the car and wiggling the steering wheel to try and release the lock (as per the manual). Is it worth buying a new battery? Are there any other things I should try?

Time for roadside assistance. Sounds like you need to be reflashed.

You battery is very healthy with a standing voltage of 13v. The problem lies elsewhere.

Disconnect the battery for a minute and then reconnect it and try again.. This will reset the electronic systems which may have gotten corrupted from the low voltage before charging the battery.

I've already both batteries disconnected for a few days to give them a good charge so I would think that's given it enough time to reset.

Sounds like the car had NO power for several days; that may have contributed to the issue. No need to disconnect the batteries for a proper charge with your CTEK. The connection on the battery end can be permanently attached with less effort than disconnecting the batteries.

If you need an extra eyelet connector, they're on Amazon for under $10:

How did your battery run flat? Is it possible the system faults caused the dead battery rather than the other way around?

The car had been in storage for 6-8 months and both batteries were flat. I've booked the car in to a local specialist. I've had to drop the steering column and remove the steering column lock so I can free the wheels and tow the car.

I had the rear view mirror disconnected which was preventing the CAN network in the car from working properly. Did a hard reset (shorted positive lead to ground) and everything is back to normal (Engine starts again and steering column is unlocked). Although now I have a "gear box fault"
