We just purchase a very early MK2 1960. The front and rear seat coverings are leather and are not original to the car. They were replaced at some point years ago.
Our issue is the pleat pattern for the front and rear seats are not like all the photos we have seen of MK2's. Please reference the photos. So either early MK2's had a different seat pattern style or more likely the replacement was an aftermarket pattern or custom made. Or perhaps the pattern is from another Jaguar car of that era. Note there is no center arm rest in the rear.
Can anyone shed some light on what we have here?
Also we are looking for the correct MK2 seat covers that have been removed and can be trashed but intact. we want to use them as patterns as we do our own upholstery. Please look at my post in the classified section.
You have an aftermarket interpretation. No Mk2 came out of Browns Lane like that that I know of or have ever seen globally & I had a global job.
Yes I was afraid of that. It makes the front seats look like sofa. Amazing what people do to cars.
So I do need to find correct old covers that we can model. I know I can buy the correct foam. Just the purchase of BAS covers is way out of budget. So we have done many interiors this way, plus sewing is fun on an old walking foot machine.
Thanks
Jeff
The early MK2's has seven pleats in the front seats and the later ones eight if my memory serves me correcly. Both types look very similar and I have 1959 and 1967 car so can vouch for this.
I am having no luck tracking down old seat covers so I cam make a pattern to sew new ones. NO way do I want to retain what is on the car car now. As I said looks like a big old sofa!!
Anyone have some old covers laying around after you had you seats redone??
I think they look very well made. If I had a MK-2 I could use them.
Might they fit the S type ?
I do not know if fit S type, But if I ever get old correct seat covers or win lotto and can buy BAS new covers, these will be removed and available if anyone is interested.
Well just as we thought regarding the rear seat arm rest, it was covered up with the seat back pattern. Unbelievable that this was done. Someone must have been on a budget when the whole interior was replaced at some point years ago.
Its remarkable that every last piece of interior was replaced with the thickest leather I have ever seen including even the front cent ash tray. A reasonable job was done. Unfortunately this car sat in the CA desert for many years in storage and the leather is quite dry and has lost its initial color. It appears from the rear arm rest that the original upholstery color was blue, as the car was originally blue before a repaint to Willow Green.
Photo blow shows back of rear seatback.
We will live with it for now until we can find correct seat covers from which t make patterns and sew up proper pieces.
