Default Centre arm rest for rear seat

Hi!
This is the armrest on my Jaguar mk 2 3,8 1965. There are no hinge assembly fitted. And never been? Can this be orignal? There are holes for hinge assembly on the rear seat, but not in the leather. And there are no holes in the armrest.

Something wrong there !. It looks like somebody fiddled with it a long time ago. And why those planks of wood behind the seat squabs ? It should be a full steel bulkhead with sound-deadening material on it, and no large holes in it.

Sorry! The rear seat is out of car and the picture is taken in a room. It's full steel bulkhead in my car and all other parts is original. I bought the car last year and it has not been in traffic sice 1975.

Most odd ! It does look as if somebody has fiddled with the armrest, On your second photo you can see somebody has done some re-securing of the leather. There should also be a flat cover for the gap, with vinyl covering it. The armrest should also have a leather pull loop on it so a passenger can pull it down easily.

Here is SNG Barratt's website page of relevance. They may be able to point you in the right direction. You're unlikely to be able to buy the hinge now, so would have to fabricate it if you can get some measurements. You need somebody near you in Sweden with a Mark 2, or an S-type

you could find a complete center-armrest hinge assembly from a salvage MK-2.

I found one complete with back panel, hinges and correct color except there are no pleats.

Well, well, there it is just as I remember it ! Thanks for jogging my memory and it shows the flip-up back panel that fills the gap when the armrest is lowered.

Getting one off a scrapped Mark 2 is going to be hard nowadays, but with the right metal sections a new hinge could be manufactured provided Kjell can get the measurements, as I don't think there are any special components needed; Jaguar never spent money needlessly on special parts, especially in the trim area.

Hi I'm back,
Thanks for all support. I've got a arm rest with hinge assembly from a friend.

I was wondering if anyone knows for sure that all Mark 2 were equipped with the same type of arm rest, or if the jaguar factory made some exceptions. Then the leather on the back seat covers the holes there the hinge should be attached and theres never been any holes for bolts in the leather, but the holes are in the metal frame.
When the car has only been on the road in Sweden between 1965 -1975 and then stood in a barn, it seems to me strange that change on arm rest, but one can never be sure

there are four holes in the metal frame of the seat where the two metal "legs" of the hinge are bolted to. (think "two skis")

there is a "finisher" wood board which is covered in Ambla and is positioned in front of the two metal "legs" of the hinge assembly,

there is a second wood board connected to the armrest itself and which moves forward when the armrest is lowered,

there are two straps which go through the second board and Ambla which are fixed with clips to the rear of the seat back,

the Hinges are not screwed to the sides of the seat, but to the armrest itself and to the metal frame behind the armrest.

Could be that you are missing half of the parts or installing it incorrectly.

I was incorrect Jose. The rear seat had been covered over including the arm rest. it is under the cover. Not yet at that stage

I just bought a MK1 and supposedly owner had for 20 yrs. Upon pulling parts, car had the worst repaint ever and more fiberglass than metal, with bumper mounts missing and straight panels where curves were. The interior had been redone in vinyl and was missing the arm rest. Sure enough they had covered arm rest in process. So, even in the 70s they were shorting customers on the restoration job. Be careful when finding a shop.
