Default Jag mk2 340 Choke

Hi,

I've recently bought a 67 mk2 340 - as with any car of this kind it's a steep learning curve. I'm trying to limit myself to one piece of jag neurosis per day but I wonder if anyone can allay one particular concern (or two). I recently, and stupidly, made a journey with the choke full on (not yet used to this feature of motoring history). Aside from using more fuel am I likely to have damaged my car ? It seems to run OK subsequently although I'm fearful that my oversight might have damaged the car.

Also is it normal for the exhaust to leave any kind of deposits - mine sometimes leaves a small amount of water and oil on the ground.

Any words of wisdom or reassurance would be really welcome

I don't think you have damaged anything. Condensation and soot can look like oil dripping from the exhaust. I would not worry about it at this time. Remember you did run the car with the choke full on which is a rich fuel condition that would cause black soot in the exhaust.

At least yours is a manual choke, the 340 is a later car and many of them had this automatic choke controlled by a thermostatic switch right by the thermostat. The adjustment on this choke is very temperamental...

all 3.4 and 3.8 carbed engines spit black soot. You did not damage anything.
