Default Mark 2 Turn Signal Problem

The turn signal lever does not return to a neutral position on my 1966 Mark 2. I have to return the lever manually. After disassembling I found the white plastic spring is broken (see photo). I bought a new spring from SNG Barrett thinking it must be repairable if a spring is available. I cannot figure out how to remove the old spring and insert a new one.
Is that even possible? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

does it happen in both directions, or just in the left or right direction?

I did this to my S-type (with unsatisfactory results as it still doesnt spring back like "other cars"). The car is in storage so I cant look at the switch. As I recall however, I think I drilled off the top of that pivot pin which is rolled over similar to a pop rivet, and then tapped it for a small screw and washer. Keep us posted.

Jose and Jerry, thanks for the replies. The switch does not return in either direction. I managed to get the white plastic switch into position, but it was so mangled that it was too bent out of shape to operate. I read the September 2022 thread again and I think my only recourse is to look around for the entire turn signal mechanism.

You're welcome.

your switch is the early type with the plastic "cam".
The next revised version was made all metal.

SNG Barratt sells the revised switch but very expensive. However, sometimes we have to bite the bullet and pay.

bought this for 66 bucks from welsh, sat on the shelf since 2022, one side of new black plastic is cracked, they wont replace it...wont do business with them anymore.

if you need this part and the aluminum/rivet its 24.95 plus shipping from 408 371 1642 page 16 of their catalog sunsp22@gmail.com
Sunbeam Specialties - Number 1 Source for Rootes Sunbeam Alpine-Tiger Parts. We carry the most extensive range of mechanical, hydraulic, upholstery and restoration parts available. the sunbeam turn signal uses the same part ( i hope...)
