Mk 2 values on the rise?

You mean like the one that just sold at the Shannon's Auction in Melbourne for $69000 !!
Oops. Called it too late
Hope the Daimlers , 240's and S types don't go stupid just yet

I wouldn't have paid 69 grand for that, and those rims.
Are they off of a Miata or a Mini or something.
Way to modern for the car.
For that money I could have restored one myself with cash left over.
EDIT:
22,000.00 for an MGB ! Must be allot of people in Australia with deep pockets and money to burn, that MGB wouldn't go for more the 8,000.00 here in Canada, or I'm not keeping up with auction prices. I would not have paid more then 5000.00 _ it's just an MGB, there's nothing special about it.
And what us it with these number plates, someone explain this to me. 106,000.00 FOR A NUMBER PLATE ! WHAT IS SO IMPORTANT ABOUT IT !

I know Jeff , I know.
It was a very high standard of not all genuine resto and the Mk2 did have a spare set of wire wheels as well but ....
As I said earlier , it was re shelled with a 2.4 body and also , the interior had been completely re trimmed but with the wrong leather !
Now , I am not saying this what has happened here but, a few years back a group of guys were working the auctions here, buying cars off each other
at inflated prices to lift the market.
(Sounds like the stock market doesn't it)
(Those cars were 1970's Aussie Muscle Cars. Ford GT HO's. I think at one time they were the fastest 4 door saloon in the world. Google Bathurst Ford GT HO and enjoy watching)
Anyways , at one point , I think one topped the $1.0M mark and other people went mad buying them at high $600K plus. That boom soon bust.
Look at the one sold last night. A 100 point restoration that sold for $500K

Well I just saw a RHD Mk2 go for under 17K today. Wish I had the dosh...

And what about those Zenith Stromberg carbs, where did they come from, that's the first time I ever saw those on a Mark 2 Jaguar ???
I'm thinking that engine doesn't belong in there, it's probably a 4.2 litre out of an XJ6.

I'll tell you something else that concerned me - Where's the pics showing the spots that get rusty on a Mk2? Show me close-ups of the sill. Open up the seals by the rear tires and show me inside the sill. Show me close-ups around the wheel wells where the rust bubbles through.
I think we can tell by the pic of the faceplate (the one that is on the firewall) this must have been a "barn find". My big concern is that he threw down carpet to hide the rust on the floor boards and painted over any other defects.
I am not saying that this Jaguar is a rip-off. What I am saying is that I believe that, within 10 years, the new owner will have to do as much to his car as I will to mine. I hope he went into the sale with open eyes and will go over this car with a flea-comb when he takes possession.
IMO, 16K is a fair price for a "project car" that you can drive to the shops you're going to have to get this car to. I wish the buyer the best.

Jeff, you are correct of course. SaloonData confirms:
SALOON Data - 206452DN - Jaguar, Daimler classic saloon (sedan) information, articles, photos and register
Also, this car does not have power steering, so will require a conversion... In my weak opinion
Honestly, I can forgive a lot in a vehicle this age. My car doesn't have it's original engine either, and I am seriously considering replacing the existing P.S. gear with R&P steering.
