Thanks for the warning @Cass3958 but apart from crash damage repairs this has never been welded, obviously it will be welded as front floor pans need repairs

this is a mk1 escort we are currently doing so I know lots about rust 😂

my guy will charge approx £1500 to soda blast and prime and will go on a roll over jig!

Try phoning K Blasting and ask for a quote. There web site is https://www.kblasting.co.uk/
Even if you had the shell transported down it might be cheaper than what you have been quoted up country.

I was lucky or maybe wise to buy the best chassis and shell I could for my S type project but as per your escort I have a Ford Anglia in a similar condition which I am struggling to motivate myself to continue. So much to cut out and weld back in. Chalk and cheese to the S type. At least the panels for the Escort are available and relatively cheap. The Anglia panels are rocking horse and bloody expensive if you can find them. Over £700 for two floor panels..

Hi,
Really enjoying your posts along with posts from Voucher Boy. We are very lucky we don't have our roads salted in the winter.
Love the paint job on the almost finished car.
Keep posting.

Out of interested why didn't you have the lower part of the front wings blasted or the doors?

Good progress. I often see this splatter of black over grey primer, what's the thinking behind that. Can't imagine it could affect the final finish, can you explain and put me out of my misery please. 👍

its a guide coat, you block flat the primer and any imperfections show up as the black will be lower in the primer, you can then get the primer 100% flat

Ah, Thanks for that. I've been Youtubing and now I'm a guide coat (armchair) expert. I've googled it a few times before, but because I didn't know to include 'Guide Coat', the results weren't what I was after. Cheers...

Wow you and Voucher Boy sure power on with the jobs. I am frustrated to have to wait so long to get anything done. The car goes ( I hope ) to the body shop for rust repairs which are beyond my expertise. By then the covid 19 restrictions should be eased and our Men's Shed should be open and I can look into fitting the new aftermarket brake booster.
Please keep the posts and photos comming.
Regards,
David Bruce. Australia.

Pics of the damage on the front wing, luckily I’ve found a NOS replacement wing which I’ll fit

Rear seat upper which is in great condition considering it’s 60 years old

My philosophy is to save every piece of every original part of the car you can. But Euwww, even I'd bin that wing!

I was tempted to cut out sections and replace but as I’ve found a wing for reasonable money I’ll change it, it’s not rotten which is even more annoying
