Default MK2 Exhaust Fitting Problems

Hi,

I'm currently fitting a stainless steel exhaust to my MK2, however I have found that the exhaust hits the rear axle before I can get the mounts onto the silencer.

At present the car is little more than a shell so there is no weight in it and if it were fully loaded the exhaust would probably fit but i'm concerned that if I fit the exhaust once the shell has more weight in it what will happen over bumps, will the axle hit the exhaust?

Can anyone tell me whether this happens when they jack there MK2 up?

Thanks for your help.

I put a new SS exhaust on my Mk2 and found that the hangers available from all of the parts suppliers were too short. The mufflers and rear pipes hit the underside of the car before the bolt holes lined up. The solution was to fabricate hangers from bar stock that drop the pipes an extra inch or more. Even then, it looks like the axle will hit the pipes if the car was jacked up.
