Default Opinions Wanted: 1959 3.4 Mark 1 Project - Good Buy or Goodbye?

I am still looking at this beautiful 1959 3.4 Mark 1 Project for $3,500. I almost bought it two weeks ago when a new Jaguar XJS got in the way. But you can never have enough Jaguars.

Here some key points:
- No visible rust on the outer body (there is always some underneath)
- The outer body looks good except for one dent in the front hood
- The trunk floor is clean and rust-free
- The engine does not run, but turns over
- The interior leather looks like a horse ate it (chewed up)
- One tie rod end is either broken or missing, so hard to move it
- According to the seller, the previous owner spend $12,000 on it
- It has been sitting for about ten years

Here the ad:

Does this sound like a good buy or something I should leave and say goodbye to?
BTW: This is not my car (yet), so this is not an advertisement :-).

If you're looking for a project car and you can do the work yourself, then it is going to be expensive. If you're going to have to pay others for the restoration then it is going to be very very expensive. Either way, you'll need deep pockets.

This would make a good donor car for $2000 or less.
