Does anyone know the paint code for this red, i think its signal red on a 1963 MK2

 

The original Jaguar codes for reds in that era:

Signal Red (1968-79): JA006
Regency Red (1968-91): JA014
Carmen Red (1958-69): JA030

Just bear in mind that two of these codes only start after the Mark 2 left production.

Have a look at the dates there might be a clue in them.

I would take a guess and say Carmen red is the Mk2 colour but it is only a guess..

I also have a 420 G, but I will paint it battleship grey, a jaguar colour from the era, this will be a nice look for weddings with the contrast.

 

My S Type is a September 67 car which was originally Warwick grey. A very uninspiring colour as it looks like they painted the under coat on and then forgot the main colour. Battleship grey sums it up so when I went through my rebuild I changed the colour to Old English White (paint code WT3) which is the creamier more Ivory of the three Old English Whites. (WT2 and WT1 being the whiter and snow white versions) You can see the colour of my car here with pictures of the old colour in the rebuild photos at the bottom of the page.

As you can see the car is used as a wedding car and this Ivory colour is very popular with the brides. If you want to hire the 420 out as a wedding car grey is not the best choice of colour.

Bazm, make sure your car is the original colour as repaints could have put a different, but similar colour on the car. Best to look at the colour where light doesn't get to it, as paint of that era, especially reds, tended to fade.

 

I would not recommend a grey Jaguar as a wedding car. The photographer might think it is trendy and chic in his black and white photos but if you were to put an Ivory Jaguar next to a Warwick grey Jaguar and ask a bride to choose which she prefers for her big day she would go for the Ivory. Just saying. I have a Gold S Type on my website as well and out of the two my Ivory S Type does 30 weddings a year compared to one or two for the gold one and these are normally as a second car for the bridesmaids with the Ivory Jaguar as the Bride and Grooms car.
Personally I would prefer a deep metallic red or dark metallic blue as the colour of my S Type but it is Ivory as that is what the Bride wants at the moment.

by the year of it 1963, it has o be Carmen, having faded and having to do a full repaint, i can go with any red 'i like

 

After doing some research trying to find samples of the red, i came accross Candy Apple Red, which i painted my bike.

I think the mark 2 would look great in this colour

 

I agree that red is stunning and it is the colour I have chosen for my 1966 Ford Anglia once it is ready for paint.
If you are not keeping the Jaguar in its original blue colour then go for what you want. I have a friend with a 1953 Alvis which is painted in Blue and Silver which were original colours for the Alvis but he chose a Peugeot blue and a Mercedes Silver as the paint was easier to come by and gave the car a new look.
A tip though, if you are painting the car do it properly and take things off rather than mask up. Remove the engine and gearbox and paint the engine bay the same colour as the car. Same with the underside of the bonnet/hood and boot/trunk. You see so many cars at shows where the car looks stunning from a distance then you get up close and see all the over spray on the door rubbers or the Bonnet/hood is closed because the engine bay looks *****. If you are going to do a change of colour respray you really do have to go the whole way and take everything off. Big job but worth it as you get to clean and polish everything as you reassemble it all.

 

Thanks, under bonnet and boot etc are cream, so not sure what to do with them

 

Seems like it has already had a colour change or the bonnet and boot have been replaced from another car.. You can get a heritage certificate from https://www.jaguarheritage.com/archi.../certificates/ which will tell you what the original colour of the car was along with a lot of other data like who Jaguar supplied the car to first.
I am assuming that Queenstown is the one in New Zealand.
