Parts suppliers
Hi. I’ve owned my 61 Mk2 2.4 for 13 years. My “go to” parts supplier has been SNG Barrat, but with supply issues, I’m thinking about using Welsh also. Does anyone have experience?
I personally will never use Welsh again. Bought a major body part that they said was in stock and was genuine Jaguar. Charged me the Jaguar MSRP for it too. It was shipped to the bodyshop where the car was after a collision and the body shop called me when it arrived and said I need to come and see things.
Went to the bodyshop and the part was clearly aftermarket, and it was both too small and the wrong curvature to fit, it wasn't even close. There should have been brackets to attach the part to the car, there was none. I could see from the labels on the box it has been shipped and returned at least twice before, and it had been scuffed to prep it for paint. Clearly other bodyshops did a test fit and it didn't fit either. This part was sold as new, but it clearly wasn't. I called Welsh and they claimed it was a genuine Jag part, no idea what was wrong, but it must be my inexperienced bodyshop, etc, etc. I had to do a chargeback on my credit card, and that's when I found they did two charges on my card - one for the part, another for the freight. The credit card company said that since they did actually deliver something, I was on the hook for the freight; which wasn't cheap.
I ended up ordering a genuine part from Jaguar Heritage in the UK and even with paying $800 for two day DHL shipping, it was still cheaper overall than Welsh, and it was a part straight from Jaguar. Unsurprisingly, when the bodyshop did a trial fit, the fit was perfect.
I have learned an expensive lesson about buying from Welsh. I have also just finished building an E Type from the ground up for a client and used SNG exclusively for my parts. I am very happy with them as a supplier. I've only ever had one slight problem with one of their parts, and that was a nut for the original style ignition wire was too short. When I contacted them about it, they sent me the correct part free of charge. It was quite a contrast to Welsh.

STICKY: Parts suppliers and services - THE INTERNATIONAL JAGUAR 'S'-TYPE REGISTER FORUM
Barratts supplied 99% of the parts for my ground up restoration. Went beyond the call of duty and I'm at the tip of Africa. Courier DHL.
See thread in my signature for suppliers and above and my superb service from Barratts. Old man Barratt even got involved.

I had a bad experience with Welsh. So they are in the list of not recommended, not worth the trouble, consumer beware suppliers.
for my '65 S type I order from SNG Barratt USA store or Engle Imports aka Terry's Jaguar in Michigan.
I also order from eBay sellers if the part is made of unobtanium.
Moss Motors USA is too expensive, they purchased XKs Unltd. which used to sell reproduction parts of really bad quality, ask me how I know.
Somewhere in Belgium there is LIMORA which has an online catalog for MK-2.
In UK there are many other classic Jaguar parts suppliers like Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust, so a good search online is always recommended.

Would also shamelessly suggest when you are looking for 'Unobtanium" you check out the Foundations E Bay stores #1 and #2. Not a lot of 'S' Type items as the Register for the 'S' takes a hard look at new arrivals. Remember we are a 501c3 and parts/books/etc fund maintain of our growing collection as well as as provide student scholarships for young restorers/maintainers. www.coventryfoundation.org.
Have used SNG Barratt for decades. A little pricey with some things but always "spot on" with parts and delivery.
The only deterrent for their use is the very expensive English postal system for parts to Australia.

David Reilly of the S type Register recently found new old stock parts for Jaguar S type. I purchased a n.o.s. air filter intake hose from him and he still has 2 new old stock brackets and clamps for said hose which he asked me to advertise in my S type Parts website. Talk about unobtanium, but these parts are exclusive to the S type built 1963-1968.
However, the S type uses many parts from the MK-2, including the 3.4, 3.8 engines and electric parts.

Bill, try ordering from their USA store?
For most of the world, SNG Barratt have a contract with DHL. I suggested Royal Mail to them as cheaper and reliable, but they reckon DHL is better and more convenient. The UK specialist Jaguar repairers that I know mainly buy from SNG rather than the local dealers. If you're a member of JEC, they give a discount. I imagine they do the same for professional customers. But, you have to ask for it!
I've also had good service (and lower prices) from David Manners. Since they also keep a lot of BL stock, they can offer alternatives for small items. Norman Motors are good for some obscure items as is Ken Jenkins.
Traditional scrap yards have just about disappeared in the UK, replaced by dismantlers and recyclers, due to environmental rules. Black Country Jaguar was an ace scrappie. Another was David Kelly, who I think is still in business.

I went to eBay but cannot find your stores. ???

Royal Mail is also very good for small parts. Just take a bit longer. Comes to your local post office where you pay clearing & Customs on collection.
I feel sorry for people like John Skinner when I see what DHL charge them/you vs. Barratts
The benefit of DHL is also that it is to your door. No hassles with Customs & clearing etc. which can be a pain in SA.
I bought a huge amount from Barratts from tropical radiators to most screws, bolts, nuts & washers ~ We are a metric country so very little is correct. UNF is stocked by a few but not plated so you have to do that.
