Years ago, I was told about an abandoned S type in a field near the Sanford International Airport.
After visiting and negotiating with the resident land owner I started pulling everything that was usable.
Owner of car must have been a pilot. Car was a 1964 model, maybe built in 1963.
1) he cut 10 vanes off of each of the original "Horn grilles" (first picture),
2) got two 12 volt Airplane Landing Lamps (also known as PAR lights?), (second picture),
3) using the original grille Frame's front and rear Support Tabs, he fitted the PAR lights to the frames, (third picture),
This is excellent. Very much what running an old car used to be: not restoration or restomod, but improvisation and evolution, and without spending a huge amount of spondoolicks.
Peter I think this is what Jaguar intended in the first place, i.e., using the horn grille surrounds to mount a lamp. It makes sense to copy the headlamp surrounds for the fog lamps.
The car's VIN was P1B75718BW LHD. It was later hauled away by the crusher. Even though the VIN states "BW", I removed a manual transmission pedal box which was quickly sold.
