Default Smelling fuel on a warm day?

We went on a run today and once it warmed up there was a slight fuel smell while driving. The smell only became apparent when the outside temp got above 35 C (95 F). Cruising.
Engine temp normally sits at 70 C but today was about 80. warmer than usual but not excessive.
We stopped at a Pub for a pitstop and had a good look around but couldn't find anything obvious. There was a really slight weeping on the inlet to the filter but not enough to account for the smell.
On the way home a cool change came through (air temp droped to 25 and engine temp returned to normal.) and the smell disappeared.

She ran fine at all times, but did take more cranking than usual to start after the pit stop.

I presume the fuel is vaporizing, but where and why?

Any ideas?
