Sticky heater levers
not familiar with the MK-2 levers and cables, only with the S type and XJ-6, but if something is sticking I use a spray lubricant like WD40 or similar metal-to-metal product to lubricate flaps, hinges, cables, and levers.
My interior is completely disassembled so I don't have any pictures but from what I recall, disconnecting the cables from the heater box will allow the complete cable assembly to pull through the grommets in the firewall if the panel that houses the controls and speaker is pulled out. The inner cable, which is really more of a stiff wire, should slide out of the sheathing for a good clean and lube. Check to make sure the cables are not bent or kinked as that will make them very difficult to operate.
Before you tear out the panel I would suggest disconnecting the two cables at the heater box and see if the levers are still difficult to operate. Just two trunion type clamps if I remember correctly. If the levers are then free, it may be that the flap that controls the air flow is sticky. Mine was nearly frozen in place and took a lot of working and penetrating fluid to free up. The heater valve can also become sticky causing the temperature selector lever to be very difficult to operate.
I hope this helps.
