Default Tread lightly

Hello Peoples
Can I have your thoughts and opinions please.
1968 Mk2 240 door treads. I’ve got the original ones but they are ‘naff’ looking! Dull, grey and look like they are made from an old wheel barrow! So, what are your thoughts on alternatives that are in keeping with the era and look of the car?
Thanks
Ron

The pieces of flat metal on the floor by each door. Probably have a proper name.

They are aluminium. Best removed to tackle any serious cleaning. That requires removal of the rubber door seal and undoing the retaining screws
They can be cleaned with aluminium cleaner sold as alloy tray wash. I suspect it that might contain phosphoric acid but am no sure.
Any place that specialises in truck maintenance should stock that cleaner
Alternatively a good scrubbing with steel wool and soapy water does clean things up.

I'd try a metal polish first. If that doesn't work, then very fine emery or fine steel wool used gently and finish with metal polish. I like Brasso as metal polish on everything apart from chrome.

Be careful taking the door treads off the car as they may well have some corrosion in the tabs behind the rubber door seal.

There are a lot of second hand ones available and SNG have stainless steel replacements.
