Understood. Thought you might have left it there for optics.

I still have it in a box but not fitted. I had thought of leaving it in situ but I have decided to fit a brass expansion tank as my bladder bag has split and the ideal place to put it is where the RB340 sat. Waiting for the warmer weather to complete this task.

my car came with a Volvo 1800-E coolant expansion bottle that someone adapted in the mid 1970's.

being a long thin bottle, it fits perfectly between the RB340 and the Brake Fluid reservoir inside a homemade aluminium bracket, sort of similar to the glass water bottle holder/bracket of the 2-SJ washer. .

Whoever did it, did a very smart job. A long hose runs down from the radiator filler neck port over the chassis rail, to the bottom port of the bottle. Very simple setup that gets the job done.

it was done exactly as done in the Volvo.

The brake fluid reservoir is on the other wing of a RHD car.

An Austin Mini brass surge tank might do the job Rob. I know you like polishing brass. Best looking radiator in town.

Came in a few configurations & ended up in plastic finally. Sure you will find a good old brass one at an autojumble.

Already have one polished up and ready to fit Glyn. Just waiting for some slightly warmer weather.

Fantastic. Great minds think alike. We won't contemplate that fools seldom differ. I seem to remember us bouncing options around on the Register at one time or maybe here.

I want to fit a surge tank to my car & had decided that the Mini tank was the way to go.

Glyn, Cass,
Snap. I think mine was supposed to be for a Leyland Princess 2200. Good old BL!
I looked on ebay for the Volvo 1800 type. It's a nice shape, but oh the price for a plastic bottle!

There are a couple you can get hold of. One is about a litre capacity the second is about a litre and a half so a bit thicker in shape. The one I have is an expansion tank so it only has one inlet at the top and this pipe runs to the bottom of the tank so it can suck the water back up into the radiator when it cools. There is a third tank that has an inlet at the top but a short pipe inside. At the bottom it has a second larger outlet. This type of tank is used as a header tank and no good as an expansion tank. The photo you showed is of the third type ie header tank, as it has an outlet at the bottom.

Yes. These were used on a number of BL cars including some MG's & now cost an eyewatering GBP 104.00 new from Moss Europe without strap or cap. Dents are free!

At least it's brass. Jose's Volvo version costs about the same in plastic. I'm becoming mean with old age.

Agreed! I have also become parsimonious, aggravated by our weak currency. I will source one locally for peanuts.

You can buy them secondhand on Ebay for between £30 and £35. Here is one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-D...sAAOSwTzlfitrE obviously needs a polish.
I have two one polished and one yet to be if you are interested Glyn. I can polish it up for you and send it over to SA.

Thanks for the kind offer Rob. Let me look around here when Covid allows. One hell of a lot of BL cars sold here at that time until the Chrysler Valiant took over as top seller for years. If I get stuck I'll let you know. Mine will not require polishing. It will be black & likely mounted in the LHS wheelarch. Once you start polishing you have to maintain it. Enough to maintain already.

Default lead seal on safety belt eyebolt

Hello guys,
I found in my S type 1965 (exported fo the USA) this lead seal next to the eyebolt for attaching the seat belt. and I'am curious if someone else has ever seen such a lead seal.

Greetings,
Hans

I have seen seals like that in other car parts, back in 1979 my Saab 900 Turbo had one in the Turbo adjustment so nobody would mess with it. It was a mechanic's seal.

Hans, I have never seen any lead seals on seat belt eyebolts. It doesn't make sense unless it was put there as a Warning to prevent the seat belt from being removed from the eyebolt? So whether it is export or domestic practice I do not know.
