Where is the temperature gauge sensor on my 3.4 MK2? A picture is worth a thousand words.
Had a minor coolant leak over the weekend. Temperature normally reads around 75C. Temperature went up to 85-90C and stayed there so I drove straight home.
About 1km from the house the temp gauge dropped to "0". After the car cooled down I opened the radiator cap and there was still plenty of coolant in the radiator.
Today I started the car and after it warmed up, the temp gauge is still reading "0".
I knew what the sensor looked like, but I had no idea where it was located. It was hidden by one of the hoses. Turns out that the electrical connector was detached from the sensor. That's why my gauge read "0". Glad I didn't run out and purchase a new sensor.
Now I need to pinpoint where my coolant leak is coming from. I know that it is near the firewall on the exhaust side of the engine. My oil dipstick has been sprayed with coolant. This is a job for next week.
hopefully it is not an expansion block plug leaking. Get a bright lamp, wait for engine to be cold, and look behind the exhaust manifold at the block with a mirror.
Coolant was leaking from the rear return pipe (arrow), when it was actually coming from a loose hose clamp connecting the return pipe to the rubber elbow.
