Default Wrong steering box!

i was attempting to upgrade my leaking and frankly crappy Burman PS box by swapping over to the Variamatic version. I bought one from Canada, LHD and when it showed up i realized there is no way on earth it is going to fit. I had notched the subframe in anticipation, figuring i would get it close and weld in the steel once i had the shape finalized. I am almost certain the box i bought is not 420G. The steering arm is miles long and the mounts are in the wrong place too. Does anyone have an idea about what i have? thanks, Mike

the mounts are miles away from the subframe

steering arm is too long

first stage of my subframe notch job

how its supposed to be!

When you said "I am almost certain the box i bought is not 420G.", are you looking for a box from a 420G? Which is a distinct and very different model from a 420 (no "G")?

The reason I ask is that does indeed look like a Mark 10/420G box, not one from a Mark 2/S Type/420. Your subfame is from a small saloon, not the forged cross member that the large Mark 10/420G has. So if you asked for a box from a 420G, that looks like what you have.

Especially the "first type" in Jaguar speak that used to warp it's aluminium top cover until they changed it to cast iron.
