Test #2 worked! Good job.
I "assume" you will be working on the 7 cylinder problem?

Hi clubairth1, you assume correct!

I have an issue with a coil pack. Have switched it from cylinder 1 to 2 and the error followed it so now I am in the process of either:

a) buying a single XW93-12029-AB to fix the problem or
b) buying all eight

Looking for advice on which option (above) to take and also which brand to buy as there seem to be quite a few.

Is this the right place to ask for a pointer in the direction of an appropriate thread? Or is it the done thing to open up your own thread with a suitable title? Any advice on any of this gratefully accepted!

Best

Well if you get in the right forum. Guys who have that model will see your post. If you leave it where you at it will be hit or miss. I have a 2014 XJR so don't know your cars in's and out's like I do with my XJ (X351).

So yes post over on the forum for your car to get the best results (Do you know where that is?).
Your question is a good one.

Hi Clubairth, Thank you for the reply I do appreciate it.

I have searched the threads for 'coil packs XJ8' and most of them are quite a few years old and not that useful to me.

So, in answer to your question, no I don't know exactly where to go. Do I just find an XJ8 thread and post away or is there a special section for us?

Any pointers on etiquette opening a thread or posting on an existing one would be great, or I will just charge in somewhere until someone tells me I am doing it wrong!

Cheers

Yes there is a forum for your model with lots of XJ experts. The problem with posting on this forum is it's a new members forum so people with your car tend to not look at it. Plus as the title states it's for new members to introduce themselves and not for repair problems.
Try this one;
XJ8 Forum 1997-2003

Not really other than the basics when posting. Try to use a useful title and not help or my car is broken or I have lights on my dashboard. Those are useless details. Also forget the long stories about how the wife went shopping and when she pulled into this store all this happened. Just get to the point and state ALL the facts you have. If you have a dash light post what code the car has. The actual numbers not some vague my mechanic says stuff. Again that's all useless crap. Save that kind of blabbing for Facebook!

I want to thank you as you already have your car info listed! You would not believe all the "naked" question that are posted with no car information at all! So then we spend many posts playing 20 questions to finally drag out what should have been posted in the first place. Again remember we need your help so we can help you. Please post pictures if possible as that helps eliminate a lot of confusion for the rest of us. Plus we like pictures so post away!
In the end we are all just guessing on the Internet!

Yes we do. The S-Type forum has a lot of STR guys and I had a 2005 model myself! Great car for me and I ran it until 130K miles or so.
Take a look and please post some pictures when you get enough posts.

Thanks for all the newbie tips and not sure but does this reply/post count as one of the 10 posts for qualifying? I'm retired and have been working on cars most of my life. I learned how to work on cars from my dad. I inherited a 2000 Jaguar s-type around 2018. It had a blown engine diagnosed by 2 foreign car mechanics. It wasnt until 2025 that I put a new(used) engine and also a new(used) transmission. Jag not starting so need some help. Will research the posts and see if I can figure out the problem

Greetings and a warm welcome to our site. We hope you will enjoy Jaguar forums.

Jaguar forums is a FREE resource. You will NEVER be asked for credit card details or payment for access. We also take privacy very seriously and NEVER request address or phone details. Members are strongly recommended not to put personal contact information in posts. You are asked for a contact eMail address when registering but this is only visible to moderators.

First - an important REQUEST
Please put VEHICLE DETAILS - the YEAR, MODEL and ENGINE size in your forum signature. This will benefit YOU when asking for help as it CLEARLY and immediately shows every member the precise vehicle in question. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Also, add your LOCATION - City and State is or even just State and Country sufficient. Jaguar specifications vary across World Markets and this helps for accurate advice.

If you use a PC or MAC, these signature details will then appear automatically in your future posts. If you use a Smartphone or Tablet, you will have to enter them each time. Note that when you setup your forum signature, it appears with your NEXT post and not immediately.

Second - the BASICS
Please note the following:
There is a "qualifying period" each newly registered member must complete before gaining access to:
  • server-hosted LINKS to download attachments in posts
  • viewing IMAGES
  • posting advertisements in MARKETPLACE
  • sending a PERSONAL MESSAGE to another member (however, new members can PM a Moderator before the qualifying period elapses)
  • the member PHOTO GALLERY
  • configuring your forum GARAGE
The qualifying period is a spam-reducing tactic that has proved extremely successful. This 'period' includes a preset number of days (3) that you must be active, and a minimum post count (10). Once these are reached, you will automatically have full forum access. The time and post count requirements are trivial to a genuine new member but a serious deterrent to spammers.

Membership status changes:
1. Junior Member to Member at 30 posts.
2. Member to Senior Member at 100 posts
3. Senior Member to Veteran Member at 1000 posts.

Members who join and have zero posts will be deleted after 3 months of inactivity (not logging in or posting) to keep the site current and computer resources freed up.

If you're interested in how this type of forum works, the FAQ "stickies" section at the top of the Jaguar Forums Feedback & Suggestion Centre has threads where you can learn about 'How to start a new thread', adding photos, sending Personal Messages, Signature details, replying to questions and personal settings.

Third - GETTING STARTED
IMPORTANT - THIS IS FOR YOUR BENEFIT!!
If you're a newly registered member and reading this as you should - what to do first? It is always polite 'forum etiquette' to post an INTRO about yourself in the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum with your LOCATION (Jaguar specifications vary across World markets so Country at a minimum or City, State and Country if you aren't into total anonymity) and VEHICLE details.....feel free to add a picture or two, almost everyone does.

You also might like to drop in to the 'Mug Shots!' thread located in the Off Topic section where you can see various pics of some of the members and also where you can post your own. These initial posts give existing members a chance to welcome you properly and for you to get settled in to the exciting world of forum communication.

Please don't use EMOJi's in thread titles. If you include an EMOJI in your thread title it cannot be OPENED or READ. Use them in the body of a post as you wish but NOT in the title. Using multiple emojis in the message text also automatically locks a post for moderation and it will not be visible until approved by a moderator.

Fourth - the RULES
We don't have many RULES. Those we do have are to ensure smooth running of the forums and prevent abuse.

Please note, jaguarforums.com is a Moderated International Public Forum and whilst trying to maintain the free flowing nature of this Forum, for the benefit of all members certain rules need to apply:
  • Foul, abusive, or racist language is not tolerated, also the use of the word Steal ership is not acceptable and may well result in an infraction.
  • New members will only gain Full Posting Privileges after achieving the ‘Forum Qualifying Period’. During this time, you will not be allowed to send Personal Messages (PMs), and you may not be able to start a Garage, or Photo Gallery. Please contact a Moderator for specific questions regarding this policy.
  • Spam type Posts or abuse of the Private Messaging system are not tolerated.
  • Post whoring - posting one post after another several times, without replies is not acceptable.
  • Posting of pornographic content or links is not allowed.
  • Overtly commercial posts or links are not allowed on these forums. Please contact a Moderator if you would like to promote a product or service on this site, whether it is related to vehicles or not.
  • The use of a Web Site address as part of a member’s personal detail’s, may result in an infraction.
  • Other Websites: Under no circumstances must any other website be abused on this site, failure to abide by this rule will result in an infraction and possible ban. By the same token, any member of Jaguarforums.com found to be abusing THIS site on any other forum will be removed with immediate effect.
  • Opinions of members: We are all entitled to our opinions, but please do not use this forum as a base to abuse other members or companies either in person or about their product or services. Anything considered unsuitable, or anything that could place this site and its owner (INTERNET BRANDS) in an inappropriate situation will be moderated or removed.
  • All advertising must be posted in MARKETPLACE but the posting of a "first" post in MARKETPLACE or any of our forums to sell an item is not acceptable. Please refrain from doing so as it will be removed and result in a permanent ban.

We are very fortunate to have enlisted several Jaguar Certified Technicians across our forums and they volunteer their time to answer some of the more difficult, and unique enquiries amongst the various model sections. Treat them with respect and gratitude when they help solve a problem. In fact, everyone should be thanked or LIKED (click on the button) when your issue is fixed with their collective help and advice. Everyone likes a pat on the back when deserving.

For those members who cannot, or will not abide by the simple rules or choose to put SPAM into their signatures or threads, Moderators reserve the right to sanction/ban any member who does not comply.

Fifth - Tips for Successful Threads
  1. When posting a TECHNICAL question, please be sure to post into the appropriate MODEL forum for your vehicle. Our forums use the Jaguar factory codes to differentiate between models.
  2. Next, include again - the Model and Year of your vehicle either in the title of your post in the style of “2014 XK - what is the part number for ....?” or in your Signature. This will help you to receive a quick reply from someone who knows something about your vehicle, and make your thread easily found in searches by Googlers and forum members looking to revisit the topic. Threads that include vehicle information often receive more replies. It also helps the respondents to provide accurate technical responses without having to ask 'what year is your car', etc.
  3. If you add a SIGPIC in your Signature, the maximum size of your custom image cannot exceed 500 by 100 pixels or 9.8 KB (whichever is smaller).
  4. the only place to post advertisements is in MARKETPLACE - please READ THE RULES in the "sticky" there before posting. Advertisements posted in the Model forums will be removed.
  5. EDITING. Members have a limited time available (24 hours) to edit their own posts. This is sufficient to allow corrections and additions. If an edit is necessary after this period, please contact a Moderator by PM.
  6. Please avoid “double” posting of the same question in different sections of the Forums; this can lead to confusing or contradictory replies from the people trying to help you. For example, if you're asking about engine issues for your XJ8, and you post it in both X308 and in the General Tech Help, that's a no-no and Moderators will delete the General Tech Help thread.
  7. Please remember that the “Jaguar Tech's” are here voluntarily and freely give their time and advice. Be patient, if you have posted a legitimate question you will eventually receive a reply. Unlike some other 'brand' of car forums, we don't have thousands of members, just sitting around waiting to help.
  8. Always follow up if you started a thread, whether the information you received helped, or you sold off the car in a fit of anger and frustration. In general, don't leave a thread hanging. We like to know the outcome - good or bad.
  9. If a reply has been useful, please press the LIKE button. This used to be called THANKS but times move on even though the expression of gratitude remains the same.
  10. Please DON'T write your posts with long unbroken lines of text. It makes posts very difficult to read. DO be sure to create line breaks and space out your text. This will ensure members read and hopefully reply, helping you with your issues.
  11. On any page there is the black Menu bar, found around 3/4 of the way up the page. There are choices in that start......User CP, Photos, FAQ, Community etc
  12. Clicking on "NEW POSTS" will immediately load all the new posts since you last visited the forum.
  13. Clicking on "QUICK LINKS" will open a drop box where "todays posts" can be found, clicking this will immediately find all new posts for that day.
  14. Also please use the “Search” facility located at the top of each page. You may be surprised to discover that your “unique” problem has already been addressed and resolved countless times. If you find your issue still not resolved, either add to an already existing thread, or start a new one with all of your background research and what you've gained from that investigation. Having all relevant discussion about a single issue in the same thread makes it considerably easier to find in a search, avoids much duplication and is simpler to follow.

Hopefully you will find these tips useful and helpful for a better forum experience.
