Greetings all and welcome to our site. We hope you'll enjoy the Jaguar forums.
Firstly - Please note the following!
There is an undisclosed "qualifying period" that each newly registered member must complete prior to allowing access to the member photo gallery, configuring your 'garage', starting a classified ads, viewing images, accessing server-hosted links, or sending a Personal Message to another member via our forum comm systems. The qualifying period is a spam-reducing effort that has been extremely successful, and will only be waived/terminated early in a thread that deals with the issue in the Forum Help section. Our admin can manually adjust your account to bypass the mandatory period. This 'period' includes a preset number of days (3) that you must be active, and a minimum post count of ten (10). Once these are surpassed, the magic happens and you'll have full access. I assure you, the time and post count is trivial to a genuine new member, but extremely effective against spammers.
Members who join and have zero posts will be deleted after 3 months of inactivity (not logging in or posting) to keep the site current and computer resources freed up.
If you're interested in how this type of forum works, how some of the technical features are used, and generally what's what, there is a FAQ section here where you can learn about 'How to start a new thread', what's a personal message, signature details, reply questions, and personal setting inquiries can be answered.

Now, if you're a newly joined member, you're reading this as you should. So, what to do first? It is always polite 'forum ettiquete' to post an intro about yourself in the New Member Area, your location (if you're not into the stealthy, anonymous thing) and vehicle.....feel free to add a picture or two to show your ride off too, everyone does.
You also might like to drop in to the 'mug shot' thread located in the off topic section where you can see various pics of some of the members and also where you can post up your own
These initial posts give the existing members a chance to welcome you properly, and for you to get settled in to the exciting world of forum communication.

The 'Dos and Don'ts'
Please note, jaguarforums.com is a Moderated International Public Forum and whilst trying to maintain the free flowing nature of this Forum, for the benefit of all members certain rules need to apply:
- Foul, abusive, or racist language is not tolerated, also the use of the word Steal ership is not acceptable and may well result in an infraction. This applies to not only our members, but dealerships, service advisers, and mechanics in general.
- New members will only gain Full Posting Privileges after achieving the ‘Forum Qualifying Period’ set by the ‘Forum Administrators’. During this timeframe, you will not be allowed to send Personal Messages (PMs), and you may not be able to start a garage, or photo gallery until the period expires. Please contact an admin or moderator for specific questions regarding this policy.
- Spam type Posts or abuse of the Private Messaging system is not tolerated.
- Post whoring - posting one post after another several times, without replies is frowned upon and not acceptable.
- Posting of pornographic content or links will not be allowed.
- Overtly commercial posts or links are not allowed on these forums, without prior agreement from the Forum Administrators. Please contact an administrator if you would like to promote a product or service on this site, whether it is related to automobiles or not.
- The use of a Web Site address as part of a member’s personal detail’s, may result in an infraction.
- Other Websites: Under no circumstances must any other website be abused on this site, failure to abide by this rule will result in an infraction and possible ban. By the same token, any member of Jaguarforums.com found to be abusing THIS site on any other forum will be removed with immediate effect.
- Opinions of members: We are all entitled to our opinions, but please do not use this forum as a base to abuse other members or companies either in person or about their product or services. Anything considered unsuitable, or anything that could place this site and its owners in an inappropriate situation will be moderated or removed.
- The posting of a "first" post into the classifed section to sell an item is frowned upon here and not welcome, so please refrain from doing so as it will be removed and result in a ban.
For those members who cannot, or will not abide by the simple grade school motto of 'play nicely', or choose to put SPAM into their signatures or threads, the Administration team and moderators reserve the right to sanction/ban any member that does not comply.

Tips for Successful Threads
- When posting a technical question, please be sure to post into the appropriate forum specific section for your Model. Next, include again - the Model and Year of your vehicle in the title of your post in the manner of “2003 XK8 where can I get a tow hitch bung?” This will help you to receive a quick reply from someone who knows something about your vehicle, and make your thread easily found in searches by googlers and forum members looking to revisit the topic. Another recommend option is to place the year, model, mileage and engine size in your signature (see the Control Panel to set it up) and/or start a 'garage' entry so everyone knows what car you are referring to (to setup a garage entry, you must finish the aforementioned 'qualifying period', of course') It is very helpful to know your vehicle information (whether you type it into each new thread/post you create, or placing it into your signature line one time so it automatically is displayed each time you post.) The members viewing a thread that includes a vehicle's pertinent information will often receive more replies and that vehicle data allows the respondents the ability to provide accurate technical responses without having to ask 'what year is your car', etc.
- Please try to avoid “Double” posting of the same question in different sections of the Forums; this can lead to confusing or contradictory replies from the people trying to help you. For instance, if you're asking about engine issues for your S-type, and you post it there and in the General Tech Help area, that's a no-no and our moderators will delete the General Tech Help thread.
- Please remember that the “Tech” guys are here voluntarily and freely give their time and advice, be patient, if you have posted a legitimate question you will eventually receive a reply. Unlike some other 'brand' of car forums, we don't have thousands of members, just sitting around waiting to help.
- Always follow up if you started a thread, whether the information you received helped, or you sold off the car in a fit of anger and frustration. In general, don't leave a thread hanging.
- Tags
These have been in use for a while and some of you may already know of them. For those that don't....These help with the search feature and make all the information much more accessible to all. They also assist in search results in browsers helping to raise our forums profile. - Please DON'T write your posts with long unbroken lines of texts that go on & on. There'a almost nothing worse & makes the whole post unreadable. Please DO be sure to create line breaks and space out your text, this will ensure members read and hopefully reply, helping you with your issues.
Full access members - when creating a new thread, at the bottom of the post there is a "Tags" box.
Please add in a keyword to that box, so for example if your post is entitled "X type brake pads & discs change" your keyword could be X type, or brake pads, or pads & discs etc
On any page there is the black Navbar, found around 3/4 of the way up the page. There are choices in the Navbar that start......User CP,Photos, FAQ, Community etc
Clicking on NEW POSTS" will immediately load all the new posts since you last visited the forum.
Clicking on "QUICK LINKS" will open a drop box where "todays posts" can be found, clicking this will immediately find all new posts for that day.
Hopefully you will find these tips useful and helpful for a better forum experience.
For you XJ(6,8, 12) Owners it is very important that you understand which section your model year falls in. Take a look at this image...
you will see that there are more than one 'style', and it can be a little confusing when first starting out; be sure to start threads in the correct section, otherwise, we're forced to move it to the correct area. It can be cumbersome, and frustrating.

The single most effective piece of advice when using this site is to first ensure you......
place the year, model, mileage and engine size in your signature
This will benefit you over & over again when asking for help as it IMMEDIATELY shows any member what model / year you are asking about!!
