Default 1986 xj6 vanden plas rescued

Hello all. My name is Lewis Pugh, I live in Bland, Virgina USA and I recently acquired a 1986 XJ6 Vanden Plas from an owner who had intentions of sending it to the scrapyard when prices went up. Although I could not really afford the car, I couldn't stand the thought of it being crushed. I would rate it a Hagerty 4, solid body and apparently fairly good engine ( I'm still locating and hooking up vacuum lines and checking out the electrics). The interior is fairly well shot but restorable. If I were younger (I'm 70) or a good bit better off I would bring it up to excellent condition (when I was much younger I fully restored 3 TR3's). As it is, I will get it in driving condition and then try to find it the home it deserves. Right now I would like to find out how many Vanden Plas were made in 1986 and how many were exported to the USA. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome aboard. The Series IIIs are great cars.

Not sure how many USA-spec VDPs came to the USA in 1986. Quite a few, though. They're not particularly rare. Several thousand?

Cheers
DD

Hi Lewis! Welcome! I live in Augusta County but have family in Wytheville and Pulaski; not so terribly far from you.

Thanks for the encouragement. Maybe we can meet in Wytheville for a cup of coffee one day.

Would be glad to. I'll let you know next time I'm going to be in that area.

Hi Ken,

It's been years since I've been that side but have many fond memories of my time spent there. Best to you and yours.

You are quiet welcome. If I ever get that side again (highly doubtful) maybe we could get together and down a few.

Thanks Jerry,

This one is quite enough for the time being but who knows what the future may bring.
