1999 XJ8 computer problems
The computer in my '99 Xj8 began going into safe mode a long time ago after I set off the alarm and inserted the key into the ignition. it went safe. I did a hard restart by touching the battery cables together. It worked ok except that after the ignition was turned off it would some times go safe and a it another restart. This would happen randomly, maybe every 10th or 15th time I would take it out. It was annoying but not that much. I had some work done at place that took a week or two, and during that time they misplaced the key fob. They replaced it. I used A-1 locksmiths to program the new one, and they had trouble with that. After I drove a time or two it started to work. However, other things started not working. The key that I had used for years quit working, the spare key works fine. the computer started shutting everything down while the car was running and even while traveling. My question is can this system be reset somehow? The Jaguar dealership in Dallas said that they would rather not work on it. Another Jaguar repair shop said it is too old for their equipment to read. Is there a solution?
