Question 2003 XKR inertia reel weakness

I've just returned from a Thanksgiving road trip, NY to Florida via D.C.,
Charlottesville Va,Blue Ridge Pkwy, Charleston, SC, Sarasota, Asheville, NC, Annapolis, Md & points in between. 3400 miles in 2+ weeks on everything from interstate to dirt lanes to grass playing fields, 2 mph to 110 (too briefly, sigh) sea level to 4000 feet and my 2003 XKR didn't miss a beat. .. but some little things irritate and I wonder if
anyone can suggest a fix? I'll put each problem in a separate post, titled specifically.

The driver side safety belt inertia wheel is getting weak. It retracts but
needs help to do so. Is this a lubrication issue or must something (spring?)
be replaced. Can I do it? Where do I find what I need? Mileage: 74,000.

Welcome rider, on your belt, I bet a good cleaning of that whole retracting mechanism would surely help the return. You can easily get to it by taking off the plastic cover on the seat belt pivot point, use a big torx bit to remove that one bolt, then undo the top of the vinyl trim piece...small screws, then you can get inside that panel where the speaker is, and handily your seatbelt winder.

A pic? You got it! Good luck!

Default inertia reel issue

Matt,

Thanks for your very helpful advice/photo. Besides cleaning
(compressed air?) would any lubrication be desirable? If so,
what? Silicon spray? White lithium grease? Graphite?

Marc
